Halo Wars Backwards Compatibility Problem

This morning I saw Halo Wars was now backwards compatible. I got really excited, and immediately went and found my disc and installed it on my Xbox One. From the few hours I've played it, it's been great.. No real issues with frame rate or anything. However,
when my friend and I tried to play with each other, we came across a major problem: Whenever I use the Xbox 360 Menu to invite him, it starts a game. This is because you press the back + start button to bring up the 360 menu, the start button starts the game.
I see no way at all to join up and play as a group at the moment. Is there a fix for this? Am I just dumb and I'm missing something? Any feedback would be awesome.

They must also write the backward compatibility code for each game separately. This process takes some time. They have not stated specifically when Halo Wars will become backwards compatible; however, I suspect that it will be closer to the release of Halo
Wars 2.

It would be nice to get back into Halo Wars on the Xbox One before the roll-out of Halo Wars 2 this fall. Are you making Halo Wars backwards compatible and if so when? There was also rumor meal of Ensemble Studios disbanding, does this have anything to
do with why we haven't seen backwards compatibility yet?

Instead of trying to press the Menu (Start) and View (Back) buttons at the same time, try pressing the view button first, and then the menu button. Tell me if that works.

Thanks for the fast reply! My friend and I both just tried this. Did not work. It still launched the match.

 

Have you tried launching the 360 menu prior to the game reaching the title screen?

 

I don't really know how that would help. Tried just about everything at this point lol. Just wanna play some Halo Wars with my friends.

 

Buddy of mine figured it out. Gotta start a party lobby and use the invite friends option.
