    Halo: Reach performance issues


    I'm so glad Halo: Reach is finally here via back-compat! However, there are some bad performance issues. So far, I've only played one map—a multiplayer matchmaking game of Big Team Battle on a Forge remix of Hemorrhage—and I don't know if Forge maps may
    have worse performance, like they did in Halo Regardless, the performance was bad enough that it would make it almost impossible to play competitively due to low, choppy framerate.

    Here are some clips I took of the match I played.

    Notwithstanding some fluke triple-kills, I think it's obvious from the footage that using precision weapons is pretty much out of the question, which is why I stuck to melee, grenades, and automatics. I normally pretty skilled with a DMR, but I could barely
    land a shot due to the choppy framerate.

    I hope this helps you guys troubleshoot. I for one am really looking forward to playing the heck out of this, but only once it is up to par.

    Ecstatic, err, that was to be my mood when I started playing Halo: Reach, one of my most coveted games, however, my mood thus far is a mix of frustration and anxiety. Having played this game for countless hours on my Xbox 360, I was overjoyed to
    see this game cross-over onto the Xbox One platform, and needless to say, I've been keeping tabs on the release date for this masterpiece. So you can imagine the first thing I did with this game when released, was to hop into a good ol' match of Big Team Battle.
    Ten seconds in, and I already see glaring problems. First off, the game has audio issues, inside and outside of a lobby as-well as in-game. The sound can only be described as a quick buzzing noise that appears every ten to thirty-ish seconds. It also appears
    to occur more frequently when close to other players. Secondly, there are extreme FPS drops. Only when I am surrounded by my team (like at the beginning of a match) or when encountering an enemy or some explosions, will the game start to run slower than my
    **** (which is extremely slow mind you). Imagine going from the average amount of FPS, to nearly a fourth of what it was intended to run at. Also when looking in the directions of all the chaos of the game, such as character models, explosions, vehicles, will
    my FPS begin to drop dramatically. I've tested these performance issues in other game modes, and the only thing that sticks through each mode are the audio issues. Team Slayer, Living Dead, basically any other game mode that doesn't involve a big amount of
    players is fine. The only thing that is broken and has both issues, (at least for me) is Big Team Battle.

    Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE this game and I LOVE how it was brought to the Xbox One and I LOVE the people who made it happen... but there is still some work to do, bugs to fix, rejections to be given and received. So hopefully these issues will be addressed
    and fixed soon, I can only wait in anticipation and bide my time not trying to get wrecked when using the DMR.

  5. It is hard to tell from clips, but as someone who has played hundreds of hours of Halo Reach on 360 and been playing it for weeks recently in anticipation of backwards compatibility, it absolutely runs worse on Xbox One than on 360. If this issue doesn't
    get fixed, Reach backwards compatibility will be basically pointless for anyone who wants to play at a high level.

    ya the performance is not up to pace. also in Splitscreen I had a crazy graphics glitch where the top screen was showing instead of textures on the bottom screen...

    basically textures were missing and in their place I saw the top players screen mirrored on the wall.

    also the sound glitched out while all that happened... after like a minute the game lagged, faded to black and reconnected + the glitches were gone... but it still had a terrible framerate :/

    at least no inputlag like Mirrors Edge or Gears 3 had when i tested em.

    Has anyone tried playing with the video settings on the xbox? If not I'm going to try after work tonight and I'll post any finding back on here

    Yeah, the performance of Halo Reach is bad -- but what's even worse, is Deus Ex: HR -- constant audio popping and dropping.. super bad.

    Backwards compatible huh? Yeah, I'll continue to play these titles on their native console, XBOX 360.

  10. I turned my xbox video display to 720p No sound clipping haven't noticed graphical issues frame rate still off but better at least for me.

  11. I've had many of the same issues while playing online (only 1 player) and while playing local splitscreen Firefight.

    I am amazed it's as good as it is, remember this is emulation of a last gen game on a system that is not really that powerful, people are expecting too much

    @Rdeal even the Xbox 360's emulator for Original Xbox games wasn't this bad, and that had it's fair share of issues too.

  15. Here is a useful comparison to see some of the framerate issues even in single player. On video is doesn't appear that bad, but this poor performance makes competitive play on Xbox One completely impractical.
