I found this thread about same issue. May it help for you

This is to help you guys with the frustration.

1. You cannot join another players game when you are in a party.

2. If you are in a party (private chat) you must hit the home button, click start on the party app and click on quit. Do the same thing with the game. This is a very important thing you will want to do in order not to start the console over.

3. When you both get back in the game, have one of you try to scroll over the other player's name on the roster, and click on join. If that is grayed out, have the other person invite you and then join the game.

4. Wait a few seconds and there you go, it miraculously works.

If you don't find a match (you probably won't) and you try to back out of the game, you both will be split after a few seconds. If that happens then repeat the join process.

I never knew that the first Halo was playable online. Was it the Xbox version that was allowed online?

I did, however, play Halo 2 like crazy. I played Halo 3 too but people kept picking the same maps repeatedly that I got bored.

I really like Halo: Reach because there are so many game modes and it doesn't matter if I play on the same map. There is always something new to do.

It depends on the game really. Some games such as Halo 3 allows multiple people to play from one xbox at the same time online.

On the One you can share the gold as long as you set the console as your Home console. On the 360, each account would have to have their own gold subscriptions.

OMG INORITE!!!!? every freaking halo in mp, people always choose this remake!!!! its annoying playing the same map 4 times in a freaking row on big team
