Halo MCC Xbox 1 disc to digital for the Series X

So I have the MCC on disc for my old Xbox 1, but now have a Series X. The game is available with X/S upgrade, but not for the disc version. Do I have to repurchase the game?

First, welcome to the Xbox community. Halo MCC is a game that has smart delivery, therefore it is compatible with the next generation game update.

Just insert the disc into the console, and make sure you're installing the game on the console's internal SSD, as the next-gen enhancements only work from there.

No you pop it in the drive and on the internal or storage card then install next gen patch

None of my gamepass games or my account digital games will work on series x.

Apex legends and my last disc based game MCC are working though...

Must be a digital licenses issue

SW Battlefront is a disc. Borderlands, Peggle, and Halo: MCC are digital (Borderlands is a disc, but because it's X360 backward compatible, it's a digital download with the disc as "proof of ownership").

I picked up Xbox One X in Sep'18 and I am enjoying Halo MCC with Gamepass. I had played Halo 1 and Halo 2 way back on my PC. Other is Gear of War Series, I completed Gears of War 4 on PC and now I was able to complete the series via Gamepass.
