Halo MCC Halo 1 freezing and crashing

I am having this exact same issue. Just installed the game fresh from Steam, and tried to play the campaign with my wife. It continuously freezes into a "not responding" state on my machine, but plays just fine on hers.

I have an AMD GPU and she has an Nvidia GPU. Not entirely sure this is isolated to AMD but figured it was worth mentioning.

Edit to add that it is indeed only seemingly affecting Halo CE. Halo 2 seems to be working well so far.

There are possible reasons why a game or an app freeze or crash and commonly it is because of compatibility, system/app update not installed, Xbox Network issues, storage issue, or third-party applications running in the background. We can eliminate those possibilities by isolating the issue you were having. We would like to ask for more details about your concern:

1. May we know if you have tried to play other Xbox Game Pass games? Did you experience same issues?
   
2. Are we part of Xbox Insiders or Windows Insider?
   
3. About your Xbox Network, what is your NAT Type and do we notice error messages like: Double NAT detected, 0x89231906, Can’t get a Teredo IP address, NAT Type: Unavailable, Teredo is unable to qualify, UPnP not successful? To check -
   
   • For Windows 10:
     
     • PC Settings > Gaming > Xbox Network and check the NAT Type.
       
     • Look for NAT Type and error message/code.
       
     • Please reply with any error message/code you notice.
       
   • For Windows 11: Install Xbox Console Companion app from Microsoft Store (click here)
     
     • Launch Xbox Console Companion app.
       
     • Go to Settings and select Network tab.
       
     • Look for NAT Type and error message/code.
       
     • Please reply with any error message/code you notice.
       
4. Did you recall installing any antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer in your computer?
   

So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

Method 1:

Method 2:

Repair your apps and clear cache the Microsoft Store. Please use this guide for repairing Xbox app.

Please go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Select the app you want to fix. Select the Advanced options link under the name of the Microsoft Store. On the page that opens, select Repair if it's available. If it isn't available, select Reset.



Clear the store cache by typing “wsreset” in the Windows search bar. Run this as admin and wait for the screen to close and open the store automatically.

Method 3: Run system scans

Run a full system scan. This will check and restore corrupted system files.



In Windows search bar, search for Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.

Copy the command below one line at a time and paste it on Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC /scannow

This is happening to me as well, after gaining the warthog and entering the tunnel.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (MSI)

64GB RAM

**UPDATE**

Updated GPU driver from 22.5.1 (4/28/2022) to 22.11.2 (12/1/2022) and the issue appears to be resolved.

The only thing that worked for me was a fresh windows install(you have to install all your games again). I tried every tricks in the book that i know off and the only thing that worked was a fresh windows install. Halo mcc works perfecktly after that.
