Halo losing it's thunder

Quite the opposite, in fact. I lost track of the number of posts I've made on the Bungie forums lambasting them with criticism of Destiny. To tell the truth, I'm not exactly enamored with either franchise, mostly because I think both games tend to deliver
mixed results, at least for my tastes. In my perfect world, Destiny would have been set in a world designed by Bethesda, and the story would have been written by Bioware.

Halo has always had good stories, and I still wish we could have seen what a fully fleshed Destiny narrative might have been like if Staten had remained in the writer's seat.

I'd definitely buy that game.

 

Red,blue & green with more technical issues....Not my (perfect) world.

 

In all honesty I think I'd rather Telltale handle the story in that situation. Sure they get weak moments but by lord do their finales pay off.

I still hammer the A button at the end of the first Walking Dead season even though I know it'll do no good. Top notch writing and superb voice acting by David Fennoy and Melissa Hutchison

 

Jurassic park the video game. A pretty weak moment.

 

Halo has been losing thunder since they tried to change the formula up since Reach.

It's what happens to all good games. The formula is dang near perfect, then developers start messing with crap they shouldn't be.

Halo reach was death, halo 4 was the burial, halo 5 beta was the dirt being piled on.

Eventually Microsofts flag ship program will die and be forgotten all bc 343 is hell bent on stealing crap from other games like COD.

I am definitely bummed that the story telling in Destiny is bad and I can only imagine what it could have been

Bungie did so well with the story telling in their Halo games and it is such a shame that an issue took place during Destiny's development that made the story writer leave

Not really,Halo 2 & 3 were just remake of previous games + poor dialogues + no characters developpement....

And i'm not surprise by what did Bungie with Destiny....

 

i played halo CE last night and it felt so old and flakey... what did make me laugh was how people say its annoying playing a level backwards in destiny but never once have people complained that you do it in halo too...

I have the expansion pass for Destiny which should give me the next three years or the three expansions but Destiny has a little story in game. Halo ha some more but it more like Chicky Computer Girl telling MC where to go. In fact I have trouble remembering
a lot story in Halo 4. Halo has fallen to Call of Duty level for me. I will get it if most of my online friends get it, just to play with my friends.

tyhe exact point being used against Halo - why did i have to replay a mission backwards yesterday? what a load of rubbish.. the hype behind Halo is a joke tbh.. handles alright for an old girl but it'll never win you the national...

 

Are you kidding me iBakez? Of course people complained about going back through levels in Halo: CE, but apparently you haven't bothered to look anywhere else. And even then, backtracking isn't necessarily a problem if the levels are well-designed enough
and the encounters in the second run-through are interesting enough. Obviously, for some people they aren't, but for others it's fine. I love The Library, which many loath, but I mostly dislike Two Betrayals, which is going through Assault on the Control Room,
(which is a great level), backwards.

It feels old? No, really? It came out in 2001. The flaky part is debatable. It still plays very well.

Your point about the hype is invalid because each Halo game is different; you can't use one title this particular series to claim that all others will be similar and equally flawed.

Lastly, before you bash Halo, you need to remember that Halo 2 really established Xbox Live, and therefore indirectly assisting everything to spawn from it. Halo 2 is the progenitor of Xbox Live's success.

@Jasperrdm: I respectfully disagree with your opinion. So, the game is a continuation of a storyline established in novels, which itself necessitates the novels. How can you judge the novels and extraneous lore without even trying them? As far as I'm aware,
Destiny doesn't even have any novels, comic books or anything to help it.

I do agree, however, that Cortana is annoying. But Halo will always have a far superior story to Call of Duty. Whether you choose to actually pay attention to it is... well, your choice.

 

All of this nonsense about Halo's in-game story being difficult to follow is certainly not what Bungie intended. That's because in the manuel for the original Xbox edition of Halo: Combat Evolved, there is a detailed summary of the story so far, which is
meant to initiate players and help them to understand what's going on. I'll quote the whole thing, since I have my copy right here.

"The year is 2552. Planet Earth still exists, but overpopulation has forced many of her former residents to colonize other worlds. Faster-than-light travel is now a reality, and Earth's unified government, through the United Nations Space Command, has put
its full weight behind the colonization effort; millions of humans now live on habitable planets in other solar systems. A keystone of humanity's colonization efforts is the planet Reach, an interstellar naval yard that builds colony ships for civilians and
warships for the UNSC's armed forces. Conveniently close to Earth, Reach is also a hub of scientific and military activity.

Thirty-two years ago, contact with the outer colony Harvest was lost. A battlegroup sent to investigate was almost completely destroyed; only one badly damaged ship returned to Reach. Its crew told of a seemingly unstoppable alien warship that had effortlessly
annihilated their forces.

The above summary, along with information given on weapons, characters, enemies, allies and vehicles, provides the player with all the information they need to jump into the first Halo game, and all of it inside the manual of the original game. Now, for
those who started with The Master Chief Collection, I must admit that it is unfortunate that 343i didn't bother to include a manual in the physical copy with any sort of summary.

 

Strangely My Gamerscore has Halo Reach listed, I've never owned it and never played it.
