Halo Infinite disc is incomplete

Hey everyone, I have both Halo Infinite on gamepass ultimate on Xbox series X and I purchased collector’s edition of the game on disc. I read reports that the disc version is practically empty and all it does is install the title screen for the game. (It’s only 15GB total…)

So I uninstalled the digital gamepass version, went offline and installed the disc version. After it finished I went and launched the campaign…. And sure enough, the game won’t start unless you go online to finish updating/installing the rest of the game. I mean what the heck? Have I and other people who purchased the disc version to have a physical copy to play, for later down the road when servers are no longer available, bought an empty disc? How can they be charging full price for something that doesn’t have the actual full campaign on it?

to add to the above, physical media is in serious decline, take pc, been pure digital for years now. i give it another 6 years and console will finally do away with disc drives for good.

You’ll find many games like this. Call of Duty, it takes Two for example have been doing this a while.

Games by and large don’t fit on a disc anymore, and Xbox One consoles can’t read the additional layers on UHD

Disc replication capacity is less than 20% what it was ten years ago. There is a huge backlog and a lot of delays. To ensure enough copies for launch, which will require large updates anyway, they had to run them long before final code was ready

Games are a million times more complex than they used to be. IMO you shouldn’t be asking for launch physical editions, but an archival edition a year or more down the line that contains a stable build that doesn’t need updating, which few titles, probably Halo being an exception, would be popular enough to justify

Part of the problem is that publishers are not using dual layer BD media much which is a problem for console gamers. BDXL 100GB disks with three layers can handle most of the largest games. Then BDXL128 is the four layer disk which is more complex to manufacture,
