Halo 5 will either make or break this franchise.

Well, its a little under 3 weeks to go, and Halo 5 has gone gold. For the sake of this franchise, I REALLY hope 343 spent the last 3 years well. All I can say is that if this game has day 1 problems the same way the MCC did, this franchise is probably
finished. It took 343 3 or 4 months to get the MCC fixed. When you look at the other top tier shooters (Black Ops 3, Battlefront) coming out in the next month or so, it's pretty unlikely many players are going to be that patient this time. If H5 is broken,
people are going to divert their attention elsewhere, and no amount of patches will bring them back.

If 343 destroys the remaining good will they have with the Halo community, I'm pretty sure this series is done for. They had 3 years to get this right. If 3 years isn't enough, they are either inept, or they think their fans are blind and will buy anything
with the Halo name. I hope 343 has paid attention to the outrage over the MCC and got this one right. Otherwise, start dusting up you resume 343 employees.

I know there were various technical reasons the MCC didn't run right. Well in my book reasons=excuses. No one likes excuses. People play video games for fun. If you can't release a product that is fun, don't release it at all.

I'll be there on day one. If anyone wants to add me and play through it (or the MCC), send me a friend's request. We can either praise or curse 343 together.

    :)

  2. Halo 4 and 343 Industries

Whether you like the changes they're making or not, I think that this will be the game that either makes the franchise or breaks it. Halo: Reach has almost universally been accepted as sub-par compared to Halo 3. If the series continues to go downhill with
the release of Halo 4, I can't say it will last too long in the hearts of gamers.

Chances are, for the MP aspects of H5 at least. You'll be cursing 343i. However, IMO. It's not 343i that anyone should be cursing, but rather it's corporate head. Which in this case is Microsoft.

What's the issue with MP? I didn't get a chance to play multiplayer, and I really didn't have a problem with Halo 4 and Reach's multiplayer. My least favorite MP was actually H2.

  6. For the hype machines, nothings ever wrong.

But when the average gamer gets their hands on it in a few short weeks we'll then begin getting an honest perspective. And I have yet to hear of a AAA title released for current gen that didn't have something broken Day One. So my guess will be MP online.

If that is the case, as I suspect it will be. Then by my reasoning, it should be the corporate head that deserves the lions share of the blame and not it's tail. Meaning 343i.

I'm hopeful that 343i learned from their mistakes when it comes to the technical problems of the MCC.

So hopefully there should be nothing more than minor teething problems that are fixed pretty quick.

But if it is a disastrous launch like the MCC was then the Halo franchise will die.

  9. I agree 100%. The community is VERY skeptical after the terrible launch of TMCC. Then months and months of patches and still does not work properly a year later.

I have not even pre-ordered H5 and wont buy it at launch. Not worth the risk. I will keep an eye on the reviews and feedback and see how well it does. If it launches very well with little to no problems then maybe I will pick it up a week later.

But there is no way I am buying this at launch after how poorly TMCC launched and how poorly it was handled.

  10. I don't expect a flawless launch from any game nowadays, with all the huge day 1 patches and such.

But, I do think that those who are pointing at TMCC as a harbinger for what Halo 5 may be are being short sighted and not considering the whole picture.

Yes, TMCC was (and still is, for some) a mess. But what people seem to so easily dismiss is the fact that it was 4 games, integrated and made to work in one UI... half of which debuted on the OG Xbox, which was 2 generations ago. The other half on last gen.
Any undertaking of that magnitude is not going to come out unscathed. It's that simple.

Does that absolve 343 for the mess that it is? No, it does not. Nobody should expect it to.

But it's pretty easy to point at the latest version and ignore its predecessor.

The way I see it Halo 4 is a much better indicator of what we can expect from 343, in every way that matters.

It was made by 343, rather than farmed out to a 3rd party dev like TMCC was. It was made for the console it will be played on, like Halo 5 is.

I simply can't look at TMCC and use it as an indicator of what could be wrong with Halo 5. That's like comparing apples to oranges IMO. Could I be making a mistake? Sure, it's possible... but putting history in its proper perspective, I see the odds in my
    favor.

  11. "with all the huge day 1 patches and such."

    - Which has become the norm with most current gen titles. In other words. "Hurry up and get it out the door so we can sell more consoles and we'll patch the bugs afterwards."

Gone are the day's when Microsoft and Bungie would prolong Halo 2's release date in order to. "Get it right" before shipping.

I remember I canceled my 4 reserved copies of H2 at GS because I was aggravated hearing. "Halo 2 launch date extended."

But since all these "Day One" patches etc. I now understand why they delayed it's launch.

Yes, I picked up 4 copies of Halo 2 on launch day. One copy for each OG Xbox I had bought (still have) specifically for System link LAN parties.

I strongly agree with you, if Halo 5 ends up being the MCC (which was the BF4 all over again) all over again, then the Halo series may come to an end. In fact, why not just let 343 make a new IP instead of continuously cashing in on the currently dying series
    (Halo).
