Halo 4 Disc Doesn't Work. Please Help Me

I recently installed a halo 4 disc on me Xbox 360 original. It gives me the "the game couldn't start. try downloading the game again" error when i try to play. i have deleted it and re-installed it and it still doesn't work. Please Help

Try deleting, clearing cache, restarting console, then re download. I just had to do that for the Witcher

Uninstall the game. I'm pretty sure disc 2 is the only disc you're supposed to install, or at least, install it first, start the game, and then install disc 1. Disc 2 is installed when you first boot up the game.

So, delete everything. Start the game, it'll ask you to put in Disc 2, do that, after that's done, start the game, exit to Xbox Live Dashboard, and then install Disc 1 from the dashboard.

 

do i just delete the title updates?

 

it will update, but then it will kick me back to the dashboard saying that the disc is unreadable

 

Just to clarify some things, is this an actual disc or downloaded game? And did you end up deleting everything or just the title updates?

I would try backing any saves up on a USB stick or the cloud, deleting everything, clearing your cache 3 times, restarting your console, and trying the game again. It looks like this method has had mixed results. Also, if possible try your disc on another
console, just to rule out a bad disc

 

Have you tried what I suggested? Delete _everything_ Halo 4, except your save files. Put Disc 2 in, start the game from Disc 2.

 

Nothing so far has worked, it works on my friends xbox, just not mine

When you have a chance to answer, I have a few questions to run past you.

1. I see that your Halo 4 disc works on your friends Xbox 360. What Xbox 360 version does your friend own?
   
2. When you mentioned your Halo 4 disc works on your friends console, are you referring to you fully installing it and playing it with your own discs?
   
3. Have you installed and played other game discs on your console, recently?
   
4. Just to clarify, do you have an official Xbox 360 hard drive?

As far as troubleshooting goes, if you have access to a different Halo 4 install disc from your family or a friend, I would suggest trying to install that disc on to your Xbox 360. After that disc is done installing, go back to your original Halo 4 play
disc and try playing again.

By deleting everything I literally mean, if you go into Storage, there should not be Halo 4 in that listing. Delete _everything_. Take the disc out, delete Halo 4, save files, title updates, _everything_. Make sure there's no disc in the console, and double
check to make sure it's completely gone in Settings -> Storage and scrolling down to Halo 4. Clear your HDD cache a few times.

Only after you're sure that Halo 4 does not exist on your console, no trace or mention of it, put Halo 4 Disc 1 in the console, start the game as you would normally, DO NOT INSTALL, do not do anything. Play the game. Start the campaign. Save and quit. The
game should ask you to insert disc 2 before you can do anything anyway. Once you're in a campaign mission, save and quit, and then you can go ahead and install disc 1.

This is just shoddy work on Microsoft/343i's part. If you install Disc 1, and not have the game create disc 2 cache, it'll freak out. It checks to see if you have Halo 4 installed. It doesn't check whether it's disc 1 or 2. It expects disc 2 cache, and sees
disc 1 instead on your HDD, and it freaks out. Follow the instructions I mentioned. If that doesn't work, then I'm not too sure what's going on.
