    Halo 4 backwards compatible version: Multiplayer not working


    I have Halo 4 for the 360 and I just downloaded it on my Xbox one. I wanted to play multiplayer so I redeemed one of my gold trial cards. After I did so I tried going into war games but the game wouldn't let me. Stating that it needed an Xbox live gold membership.
    I then checked if I actually had redeemed the code and Xbox said I had. Has Halo 4 not setup multiplayer for the Xbox one? Or have I just messed up?

    Another thing I forgot to mention is I got Killer Instinct Classic. An emulated game of the old version from back in the days.

    This leaves me to believe that Microsoft can make Xbox 360 games work on Xbox One as backwards compatibility. At the moment there bringing all the cash in by remaking Halo 1-4 LOL and maybe who knows another few exclusive titles eg, Gears of War, Alan Wake remake etc. Then they might release this backwards compatibility.

    Hi, there are subtle differences in the list of backward compatible games depending on where you live, here in the UK it only shows Left 4 dead 2 as being backward compatible, in the USA list it shows both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 as being backward
    compatible ( strange ).

    Now those are only the standard versions of the games, the GOTY versions I suspect are not seen as standard versions as they contain additional content, that may be the problem.

    MULTIPLAYER Xbox ONE vs. Xbox360

    As Smwutches already said, Xbox One versions of games can't play Multiplayer with Xbox 360 versions of the game.

    However, since the Xbox One is gradually getting Xbox 360 backwards compatible titles, some original Xbox 360 games can run on the Xbox One, and then the Xbox 360 and the emulated Xbox 360 games on the One can play together.

    FIFA 16 and 17 are NOT backwards compatible games, so they don't work across Xbox One and Xbox 360.

    Forza 5 and 6 don't exist on the Xbox 360. Forza 5 and 6 doesn't work with the Xbox 360 Forzas 2, 3 and 4.

    Later this year, the Xbox 360 Halo games will be made backwards compatible (there has not been a set release date yet). But currently HALO: REACH works on the Xbox One already, so your sons could at least play HALO: REACH with each other.

    And as Smileskybird said, in the (not too distant) future, Minecraft should allow cross platform multiplayer. But currently it's not possible.

    So to sum it up: Check this list here for games that your kids can play together on the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One through backwards compatibility:

    Occasionally and typically if there isn't a backwards compatible version. For instance, GTAV, MGSV and Skyrim I repurchased, but if there is already a backwards compatible version, then I usually stick with that. Main exception being the Halo MCC as I

    Halo Reach is not on the Master Chief Collection disc, only the Halo CE, 2, 3 & 4 are. If you want to play Halo reach, then you can purchase the dlc for the Master Chief Collection or download the Backward Compatible version.
