Halo 2 hype?

The reason I went Xbox was because of Halo. The original was excellent! My wife and I played over and over (before we went Xbox Gold). Legendary against the Flood..... wow.... I don't understand the hype over Halo 2? I played it, wrapped it, meh...
whats the big deal??? I see a Halo 2 documentary on my home page. Whats the big deal??????

Not really a fan of Halo. Really loved Fable 1 & 2, pgr3 & 4 and the first 2 gears games.

 

Halo 2 was all about the multiplayer so if you only played the story it would be understandable to wonder what the big deal was.

You see all these gamers that feel the need to jump all the time rather than walk/run in every video game now? Halo 2 caused that, turned everyone into a jumpers. I was playing MMO's at the time and the sudden influx of jumpers into EQ drove us crazy.

 

Halo 2 is responsible for the way games like COD and BF are organized. It revolutionized FPS and is responsible for the success MS has enjoyed with XBL.

 

One question I have about pro-Halo Reach Halos is why was the ability to sprint non-existent then? Or possibly other shooters before Call of Duty 4?

 

Halo 2 was about the multiplayer.

It was the game that defined multiplayer gaming on consoles. Before then there weren't many. I remember the dreamcast having multiplayer but that was dial-up and quite expensive if you played a lot.

It is still one of the best multiplayer console games ever. In fact it was still one of the most popular xbox live games right until they switched off the servers.

 

Like said above, Halo 2 was about the Multi-player and over Xbox LIVE. It was the first to offer a fully functional Matchmaking System via Xbox LIVE and Party System that made Joining both Friends and Matches easy.

Halo 2 Multi-player can very much be given the entire reason to why there is an Xbox LIVE and Xbox today. Up until then Halo CE was Local and LAN Connections only. Nothing before was seen as so User friendly and easy to simply get into a Match. Halo 2 Matchmaking/
Party System is the basis for everything Xbox LIVE is now. It all started with Halo 2. The very foundation of the Xbox 360 Dashboard and Matchmaking was based on the work from Halo 2 and Bungie.

As for the Sprint, lol no Sprinting didn't really exist prior to CoD MW. I'm sure there were others before but MW changed it to every Game has to have it.

Anywho, I'll be picking it up. Despite all the anger Halo has brought me over the years, it still brings me great joy.

 

The world of online gaming & XBL would be a different place if not for Halo 2.

I still say the bar for an online console game is Halo 2, a game from 2004 that has yet to be totally toppled.

I started a $50 XBL account & started high speed internet just to play the game with friends. Some of the best online fun I've ever had, a decade later.

 

I started late into online gaming; nevertheless my first time playing online was Halo 3. It was addicting fun on Xbox Live.

I've never got to play Halo 2 so I'd be pretty excited to play The Master Chief Collection, especially Halo 2's matchmaking to see what I've missed.

Halo Reach is number one all time favorite Halo game ever and I love how the " Sprint Ability " was standard in Halo 4 Spartan Ops

I will be skipping the Halo Master Chief Collection and Halo 5 Guardians. I will not be buying anymore Halo games because I will just play them on my Original Xbox and Xbox 360 when I want to replay them

@Blue, I had to ask because I never experienced the MP on Halo 2..... I was not a Gold back then, hence my curiosity for all the Halo hype.

 

Halo 2 MP [IMO] set a standard for online play that no other game has met. It set the bar and many games have come close, but none have raised it. Even the following Halo games didn't quite have the same magic spark that Halo 2 did. Sure they were still
fun, but I think Bungie added a bunch of things to the MP in an attempt to go bigger and better... and in doing so, they lost that 'simple but fun' aspect that Halo 2 captured perfectly.

 

Anyone who skips on the Halo collection is ridiculous, especially if you enjoyed anything from the franchise. If you own an XB1 you need to own the collection. It literally is the best gift MS could create for Xbox gamers. Even if you have only 1 friend
who is getting it, its worth picking up to play tons of hours co-op. The only people I can see not wanting it is if they hate FPS games, which at that point I'd question why you'd even have an XB1 at this point.
