Hackers changing ip address to get others banned from live

In order to DDoS you, the person needs to know your IP address. And they can only get that address, if they are in the same game lobby or party chat or other direct peer-to-peer connection (for example using chat software on your PC or whatever else the
hacker coaxes you to contact him).

So make sure you block and mute the hacker, so they can't contact you, and Xbox Live will *try* to not match you with that person in a lobby.

After you blocked the hacker from contacting you, you need to change your IP address. This is done by unplugging your modem/router gateway for about a minute. After your modem re-connects to your Internet Provider, you should have gotten a new IP address.

If the hacker was DDoSing you at that time, the attack will still go to the old IP address, while you are then using a new address that isn't DDoSed.

Just make sure you are not accepting party invites or anything that can reveal your new IP to the hacker. Then you'll be safe from DDoS attacks from that person.

Also contact your Internet Provider, so they can log the DDoS attack, and they can then press legal charges against the hacker for abusing their system with a DDoS attack.

Actually, they can't get another Live Membership (unless they use a different email). Also, Microsoft *CAN* block people from making new LIVE accounts by their IP address, which for many broadband users, is the same IP for 6-12 months or longer. So it's
not always as easy as getting a new console/LIVE Membership.

Generally Microsoft will do this (depending on what the problem is).

1. Give a warning message to the user along with a 24 hour BAN for LIVE services (excluding Zune, Apps, other non-social experiences. This BAN does extend to Facebook and Twitter Apps.).

2. Give second warning message with either a 72 hours or 1 week BAN depending on the severity of the offense.

3. Permanently BAN LIVE Membership account. New LIVE account can be made on same console.

4. Permanently BAN LIVE Membership AND Console GUID (Console ID) from service. Local play on console can still be achieved.

5. Permanently BAN IP address from making further LIVE Memberships and different consoles from the LIVE Service using the same IP address.

They do, that's how they Perma-Ban Consoles. It's never via an IP Address and always at the Mac Address. But it still means there are two more to replace the one that was Banned.

DDOS is really hard to stop since it happens from multiple ip addresses at a time. The only way to stop it is to basically ban the offending ips. But they can be easily changed to get around them.
