Yeah if you sign out whilst playing gears it erases it all. Apparently the signing out thing is how you can 'hack' the achievements.

you are doing is erasing the personal.data but.not.the account

No account is erased there is.a 5 year limit on gamer tags yes now.as long as you don't login
