What is done to stop your acct being hacked ?

My account was hacked on August 4th by someone in China, and I still to this day have not received a refund not am I able to play on Live. I filed a BBB complaint against XBOX on October 4th because Micro$oft will not cooperate in refunding/unlocking my
account. I suggest head over to www.BBB.org and file your complaint as well.

My account has never been hacked, as I have Two Step Verification enabled on my account.

Simply go to
https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage and sign in with your account. Before you change anything: Check that the hacker didn't add their own phone number or email to your account, as the hacker could then use that to recover your account.

Now change the password of your account. If you used the same password on your own email account, it might be that the hacker also uses that account to recover your account after the password change. So make sure you use two different passwords for your
Microsoft Account and email, if you use a third party email account different from your Microsoft Email.

After the password change, scroll down further to the Two Step Verification setting. Enable that. If you have a smartphone, you should also set up the Authenticator App to work with the Two Step Verification.

That way, whenever a hacker tries to sign into your account through a stolen password, they need to enter a secret code that is shown on your phone only. So unless the hacker also manages to physically steal your phone as well, it's impossible for them to
get into your account.

And in case your kids made up the hacker attack, you can also set up your account to prevent unauthorized purchases. Follow the instructions here:

That way, a passcode has to be entered before any purchase.

Also educate your kids to NEVER give away their login credentials to anybody.

Sometimes malicious people in some popular multiplayer games offer gullible kids to level their character, or offer them some free items or in-game currency. But in exchange the kids are supposed to give them access to their account. If the kids hand over
the account hoping for a cool item or whatever the malicious person offered them, the hacker then abuses the account to buy stuff for themselves.

So please talk to your kids about account security as well, and to NEVER believe anything someone tells them over the internet about free stuff.

Just think of the "Free V-Bucks"-offer on the internet as the "Free candy" from a stranger with a van.
