What genre do you guys think will overtake shooters and sports games, if any?

The only "skill" burst fire weapons are the M4 and M16A4 due to how crap they were. If you can dominate with either of them, you're a beast player.

It doesn't really matter what is "dominating." Games will sell regardless.

 

I agree with Wilko here..RPG's will always have my money before anything else.

 

RPG's were my first thought aswell. Solid genre.

 

RPG's are my favorite genre no contest. It's possible that the vast majority of people who post in this thread will prefer them as well. Unfortunately, we make up a very small percentage of people who own consoles.

Most of them are mouth breathers who don't even know these forums exist and get bored without the instant gratification you get from shooters. There are also a great many sports fanatics who see anything beyond sports games as "for nerds".

There will always be the successful few. But as much as I wish it would happen, RPG's will never dominate sports games or shooters.

 

I remember when RPGs used to dominate. They've had their shine. C'mon Fighting genre.

 

i don't see why one genre needs to be dominating over all others, or why people would get worked up over the issue...play what you like, avoid what you don't. and besides, genres can overlap quite easily. shooters with rpg elements, playing an rpg as a shooter,
action/adventure with horror elements, horror games with platforming...i guess if i had choose a genre, however, i'd go with rpg or action/adventure.

 

Which ever genre "dominates" has the most titles developed. I Would love to see the day when quality RPG's are releasing every couple months. The X1 doesn't even have release dates for any yet.

 

Did you see how well people reacted when they turned on their ONE's and weren't greeted with a mirror image of the 360 Dashboard?

People fear change and many didn't have the patience to figure out how to use "Party Chat" correctly and just wrote it off as 'broken'.

If "Guns n' Sports" are what developers think the people want you can understand why developers are reluctant to try anything new.

 

I would like to see a resurgence of platformer games.

 

Shooters and Sports games tend to 'dominate' only because the gaming community has completed changed over the years. There has been a dramatic increase in what you would call 'gamers' and a lot of those people probably don't enjoy complexity in their games.
Shooters like Call of Duty / Battlefield and Sports games such as Madden / FIFA lack any real complexity and offer you a 'quick fix' in enjoyment. Don't get me wrong, I play FIFA as I'm a huge football fan and the latest installment in the CoD series has
to be first one that I've enjoyed in years but I'd still love to see a new Fallout game, a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur or something similar to Mass Effect. They just happen to be some of my favorite games from the 360 generation but there are plenty of other
games from the RPG genre that I'd love to see. RPG games are popular, but they come with complexity and require patience, most 'modern gamers' don't have patience and would rather the games they play remain simple.

 

I think RPG are more popular than people realise...

 

I would love for RPG's to be top dog again, but it'll never happen.
