  1. [GUIDE] Troubleshoot and Fix Packet Loss Issues with your Xbox


    Hi Everyone!

    Hopefully this guide will help those that have come across the dreaded Packet Loss Issue that can sometimes effect Game Downloads, Gameplay and Parties with friends.

    Start to download or play a game and receive the dreaded, you have High Packet Loss message when testing Network Multiplayer or just won't work.? If you go to Settings\All Settings\Network\Network Settings but do not see any service status issues listed,
    Click Detailed Network Statistics.

    From here you can see a label named Packet Loss, anything above 0 but lower than 3 can be effected by how your network is set up, maybe you're on Wi-Fi, a Ethernet cable that may be loose.....

    If you are getting High Packet Loss that is effecting your gameplay the following may be able to solve your issue with a little investigating.

    FIRST: Check that there are no service alerts that may be effecting your connection Xbox Service Status

    SECOND: If you are on Ethernet, check to make sure your Ethernet Cable isn't lose and if you are on Wi-Fi, make sure you are getting a good signal from your Router. Also check that your Internet Providers cable is tightly secured.

    THIRD: Test your Internet Connection using a tool such as Speedtest.net to see if you have a good connection. If you think there may be an issue, contact your ISP to
    make sure they are not experiencing any issues that may be effecting server

    FOURTH: Power Cycle your console (Hold consoles power button till it turns off and then turn it back on). In some cases, I unplug the power cable just to be sure.

    FIFTH: Power Cycle your Modem and Router or Modem Router if you have a combined unit. This can usually be done by unplugging the power cable from the back and count 10-20 seconds then plug it\them back in.

    SIXTH: If you are on Ethernet, try changing out the Ethernet Cable and\or try switching to Wi-Fi. If on Wi-Fi, try a different connection such as a Hotspot or switch over to Ethernet

    In normal circumstances, these steps should correct your Packet Loss issue and you should be back to gaming with friends!

    under "You have high packet loss". While your packet loss is not currently high, any packet loss can contribute to any network issues you're experiencing.

    Not connected

    Online connection issues

    "I have done everything in terms of contacting my ISP, buying a new router and connecting my Xbox directly into the router itself and still experiencing packet loss"

    Packet loss indicates a High resistance fault in network connection. It may be internal or externally if you are on copper line feeds. Your ISP would have to test the line between
    the exchange and your house.

    Check the socket the network hardware connects to for any corrosion.

    Check the ethernet cable you use to connect console to gateway/router/modem for any crush damage or try a new cable and ensure its fully locked into both sockets.

    Try connecting via WiFi and run the XBOX network test, and then back to wired ethernet.

    Sure thing. I appreciate it. There's no guarantee we can fix the issue by troubleshooting your console because this packet loss is dependent on your network connection or configuration.

    If possible, try to use a different router to isolate the issue.
