[GUIDE] Green Screen and Connectivity Solutions

Some of us have fallen victim to the "Green Screen of Death" where after you power your console on it simply gets stuck or freezes on the green Xbox screen. The other issue could be that you can get to your dashboard but you can not connect to online services
to do a proper update. This can happen for a number of reasons but most can be attributed to file corruption or update failure. Most of the time it's a pretty easy fix. here are two solutions that have helped me.

    1. The most obvious of tricks in your toolbox, the "Hard Reset".

    - Hold the power button down on the console for 10 seconds and it should power completely off.

    - Wait 30 seconds then power it back on and let it load. Don't worry if it takes longer than usual, you did just completely wipe out the temporary files for the console after all.

    - Allow it to sit on the Green Screen for around 2 minutes. If nothing has happened by the 5 minute mark, proceed to the next tip below.

    2. Sometimes after a firmware update, the console may have missed a file or two inadvertently or the console was powered down during the update for some reason (lost power in home or accidental unplugging of the power cord, doh!). When this happens, it
is sometimes necessary to try an "Offline" update. I have a link to the Offline Update guide below. Make sure you verify your internet is active and your console is properly connected to your modem via hardwire (LAN) or wireless connection (WAN). If it
is, go into Settings, then Network and select the "Detailed Network Statistic" option. Run that test and it will spit out the most vital information for your connection. Things like Upload and Download speed, Latency, wireless strength and packet loss. Pay
attention to these numbers as they are VERY important. You want your download/upload speeds to be as high as possible (minimum upload is .5 Mbs and minimum download is 1.5 Mbs), Packet Loss as close to 0 as possible. Anything over 3% will give you a lot
of problems! Wireless strength, obviously as close to 100% as you can get and the biggest one, Latency! This number needs to be as low as possible. 0-20ms is considered excellent, 21-41 is satisfactory, 41-60 is high and anything over 61 is considered extreme
and will cause all sorts of connection issues. There are a lot of guides out there to help get these connection numbers in line. Just keep in mind, using a WIRED CONNECTION IS YOUR BEST OPTION!! If you're wireless with a high latency number, try
moving the router closer to you or your console closer to the router. That will help big time! sometimes, the offline update option below ids your only option for your console so keep it in mind if your internet connection isn't the greatest. Thanks for
the read and good luck out there!

    One guide green screen defect

    Hello there,

In regards of changing the video settings, I already mentioned it works lowering the resolution to 480p, but in that case the screen gets reduced (either 4:3 with black side borders or smaller 16:9)

Using a component cable is not an option: one guide can be used only via the in hdmi port of the console (and I have not that kind of cable anyway)

Concerning the cache, that's not the problem. The console works fine, without passing through Xbox.. and also with that, as long as I don't enter vwii mode or if I enter it in low resolution (but again, I lose screen dimension in that case)

It's either one guide or the Xbox that has a wrong colour coding for that mode at higher resolution (otherwise either Wii u or the mode should not work at all in any case and not just in that specific setting) and this should be fixed on Microsoft end.

Hello Daino M, I am an independent advisor and I will be happy to help you today. My name is Khaji

I understand your frustration. Here are some solutions that might help you fix the problem with your Wii U in backwards compatibility mode (vWii):

Change the video settings in vWii: Some users have reported that changing the video settings in vWii can fix the problem

Try a cable component: If you have a cable component, you could try using it to see if it fixes the problem.

Clear the hard drive's system cache: Corrupt data in your Wii U's cache can cause problems. Follow this guide for help: support.xbox.com/xbox-360/console/clear-system-cache

Start the Wii U console in the Wii Menu: Turn on the Wii U console, and then press and hold the B button on the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote, or Wii U Pro Controller when you see the Wii U home screen.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding! If you need anything else, don't hesitate to contact us again.
