[Guide] Child account and xbox live privileges

You think you are an adult stuck in a child's account? Well here are the steps to follow in order to change your birthdate in a MS account.

For most people, in most regions

Sign in to Your info on the Microsoft account website.

Select Edit your personal info.

Change your birthdate, and select Save.



For child accounts, in some regions

If the birthdate on a Microsoft account says that it belongs to a child, there are different steps to take in regions such as the United States of America and the Republic
of Korea, and other regions that regulate what children can do online.

I'm a parent, trying to change my child's birthdate

Using the parent's Microsoft account, sign in to your Family page on the Microsoft account website.

Select Manage my child's profile info.

For the child’s account that you want to change, select Edit this child's personal info and then follow the instructions.



I’m an adult, but my account thinks I’m a child

To change your own account from a child account to a full account, you need to prove that you're an adult. You have two options:



Option 1: Provide a valid U.S. credit card number

Option 2: Send proof of age

In case you want to grant exceptions to your kid's account
to view content that’s rated higher than the child account settings for your family, you don’t need to change all of the settings to give access to a specific content type, such as a game or a video.

Any adult in the family has the ability to grant exceptions to the content limits currently in the child account settings for your family. You have two options in granting
exceptions:

Always – This option grants a permanent exception that can’t be revoked.

Just this once – This option is a one-time-only exception. It expires as soon as the child signs out of the console.

Note If you’re allowing your child to purchase the game or video to which you’re granting an exception, the content must be purchased, downloaded, and installed before you can grant permission
to use it.

Have your child sign in to their account on the Xbox One console.

Locate the content you want to allow your child to use.

On the Choose who will give permission screen, select the account of the adult family member who is providing permission.



Enter the adult’s account email address and password, or the console’s passkey.



Select either Always or Just this once.



After you give permission for your child to use this content, they can open the content immediately.

Are you by chance using a child account? If so it sounds like the adult account tied to yours will need to be signed in to make changes to your Xbox Live privileges.

A child account can share and obtain privileges only through the parental account
