Groove Music 3 Month Pass Expired?

With the purchase of my Gray/Green Xbox One Controller, I was given the promotional code for a 3 Month Pass to Groove Music. However, when it came in today, the code was already expired, even though the expiration date is December 31st of this year.

I received the code via mail, as it came with the controller itself. There was a card that the code came on.
