Grinding sound coming from console

It's probably something to do with the fan inside of the xbox, maybe dust or something? Either way the churning noise is most likely due to something either in the fan or wrong with it.

the noise comes from the fan. This is very large in the Xbox One.
Its size allows sufficient cooling at a comparatively slow speed. In practice this means that he is not actually audible - unless you place your head sideways on the console. But who already does that.
If it's just a low hum, it can not be that bad. However, if it is a grinding noise, I would swap the console. If the whirring really bothers you, I would contact the support of MS.

Its probably the fan. Xboxes are known for sometimes making weird noises. It could be dust or something stuck in there, it could be a power failure, it could just be something loose and the fan isn't turning right. If your games are running fine its probably
just dust, so long as the console doesn't overheat it should be okay. I'd recommend moving it to a more ventilated space for a little bit.

Based on your description, the grinding sound could be coming from the console's internal fan that is part of the cooling system if you say that it happens even playing digital games on the internal hard drive. The console should be pretty quiet while running
and a grinding noise is never normal. if it is the fan, the console could overheat from long play sessions if it is not working efficiently but other than a disturbing noise, the console should run games fine.

From a personal standpoint, even if the games are running fine, I wouldn't take the risk of encountering another issue down the road and I would look into sending the console in for repair to get inspected by a licensed technician since we wouldn't know
for sure where the grinding sound is coming from but it more than likely could be coming from the cooling fan. You can contact customer support for further assistance.
