    Grinding Noise from Disc Drive and then Black Screen of Death!


    This is the second Xbox One console in 18 months that has failed for me. I purchased the original on Day One and this failed (luckily) after 11 months and so was still within the 1 year warranty, the unit was replaced by Microsoft.

    It appears that Microsoft are so confident in their product that they only provided a 90 warranty on the replacement which has failed (due grinding noise from the disc drive and then from the loading screen to black screen). This console appears to be dead
    after only 7 months!

    Over the past 2 days I've spoke to 8 different customer service operatives through chat and on the phone and the upshot is that I'll have to open a service repair at a cost of £83.33.....wow!

    Why should I have to pay for a repair to a console that (in my experience from the 2 I've owned) I'm not confident is going to last the year?

    When are Microsoft admit that both the 'disc drive grinding noise' and the 'black screen' are manufacturing faults? I'm so angry and frustrated that Microsoft can treat loyal customers like this. Complaints about both these problems appear all over the
    internet and in looking at posts on this forum, there are plenty of users experiencing both problems on here too? It appears that Microsoft have complete power over us and are squeezing every penny they can out of loyal customers who have already paid for
    what they thought would be a quality product.

    I've taken consumer advice and will escalate my complaint higher - it looks like my option to take it higher than the usual customer service is to
    write a letter to Xbox Support Management at Head Office in Reading, UK. Nobody from the customer service team can give me an email or phone number for this office, so I will send it by post -
    unbelievable!

    Do employees from Customer Service or Xbox support ever read these forums?

  2. Does the Xbox One have the red ring of death.

    The grinding noise of death- you have a defective blu-ray drive.

    Also I heard of the green screen of death.

    All is pretty rare though. (Especially compared to the RRoD)

    Disc tray/drive problems

    Disc drive not giving my Disc back. Makes grinding noise like gears are out of place. heard that Microsoft are giving new xbox's to replace peoples xbox that have the "Disc tray of death"

    Sorry to hear of your experience, I just thought I'd pop in to say that official support most certainly do go through these forums regularly, though I'm not too sure how they will be able to help in this situation as you seem to just want to submit a complaint
    and you've obviously figured out the path you must go down for that.

    Just a tip that I think there is an extended warranty available when you get the console repaired or replaced, maybe check into that next time (if there is one).

    I just want to put out the fact that I too am having these specific problems.

    That way other users that go looking for help can see that both these problems are more widespread than just themselves (the same as I've been able to do by researching the internet and these forums).

    Maybe MS management should do the same and they'd realize that their reputation is being hammered by this poor quality product and the poor customer service that follows these problems.. I've seen plenty of people stating that they're jumping the MS ship
    and going to Sony.

    If it were my choice there certainly wouldn't be a next time, I'm a parent of a teenager that thinks that MIcrosoft/Xbox can do no wrong. Unfortunately for him they will not be receiving anymore of my hard earned money, he will have to save hard if he wants
    to support them.

    He's now stuck with hundreds of pounds worth of games and accessories and no working console to use them with. Luckily for him he still has an Xbox 360 that has outlived two Xbox One consoles.

  6. I had the same problem with the black screen and ended up having to buy a new Xbox customer service is appaling I'm sure Microsoft is run by a bunch of bots

    I just want to put out the fact that I too am having these specific problems.

    CD Drive Noise?

    You'll never have a 100% silent disc drive when it is reading data from the disc. As long as it is still reading/detecting the disc fine and not a loud grinding noise, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Hmm, a clicking noise...could be the hard drive.
