Green screen with HEVC (.265) videos

My xbox will not play video files properly. If I try to play HEVC movies it only shows a green screen. Some .mkv files will play but it shows green blocks at the bottom of the screen. These video files play fine on my windows 10 PCs and my Samsung galaxy
S7 cell phone. I have tried playing the files streaming from the network and locally from a usb drive but it has the same issue. Has the issue in Plex and media player. I have tried different HDMI cables, displays, and even factory reset my xbox.

Not sure if there is a solution to this besides wait for MS to care, but figured I'd post this.

    :)

I had a chance to try a couple things:

Lowering the resolution on the xbox to 1080P doesn't change anything

Playing the same videos on the Xbox One non-S there are no issues.

Not sure what to make of that, but I can find other posts online with the same issue and it only applies to the One-S...

You're definitely not the only one experiencing this issue, it's just posts about it are scattered around. I was following a thread under PLEX (which is where I noticed this issue streaming stuff from my library). It used to work flawlessly before the
last update or two, it's as if they broke (unintentionally or intentionally, who knows) their codec for h.265. For now, I don't use my XB1 for streaming as I've had to resort to alternative methods.

Yeah that's exactly where I am experiencing the issue, movies that used to play fine in PLEX no longer work properly. I thought it may be plex but even running the movies off of a USB drive in media player does the same thing. I'm just irritated because
my cell phone is a better plex streaming machine than my xbox one S. Microsoft doesn't seem to take any interest in it either. I've tried their chat a few times and their only suggestion is to post in a forum that is populated only by enthusiasts, not xbox
    technicians...

    Hey there custom90gt.

Sorry to hear your troubles with H.264 content. To start out, are you or any users on your Xbox One part of the Preview Update? If so, have you had a chance to report the issue over on the Preview Forums? If not, let us know so we can best help you out. H.264
    content is supported as
    outlined in this FAQ
, although if your files contain unsupported content it may not work properly.

I am not part of the preview update, however I will try that out and see if it is still an issue. If it is an issue, I'll report it there. It's just odd that all of my h.265 content worked before one of the updates. When I called in the tech that answered
my call said I was the third person that day to mention issues with HEVC videos.

    It's H.265 not .264. .264 works without issue.

Yep, and it still doesn't work. Pretty disappointing considering how microsoft touts the xbox as a multimedia machine.

Just did the latest update and still have the green screen with h265 stuff. Looks like I may switch over to the darkside (sony) next generation.

Sorry to hear the frustrations and apologies for any confusion. Unfortunately .265 isn't supported which explains the trouble you're having. H.264 is supported as I mentioned, but not .265.

Feel free to provide feedback over on
    Xbox Feedback
for your interest in the format.

According to your patch notes it does support H265 as of 6.2.12998.0:

    http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/system-update-operating-system-2015#4b0ee9ac0d324e3f9309e4566736fbbb

This means that since 2015 the xbox as supported 10bit HEVC. I think you need to recheck your facts.

Also the xbox is touted as a multimedia hub - how can this be when my cellphone or 40 dollar amazon tablet has no issues playing H265 but my Xbox One S cannot. Microsoft needs to get off their thumbs and fix their codecs.
