If your Xbox console doesn’t update successfully, you may encounter one of several results, including an error code or message, or a green or black screen. Your network card may need resetting, among other possible reasons.

If your console is stuck on a start-up animation screen (shown above), power cycling your Xbox console will reset the network card and clear the cache.

1. Press and hold the Xbox button  on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds.
   
2. After the console has shut down, unplug the mains lead and wait 30 seconds.
   
3. Plug the console back in and turn it on by pressing the Xbox button .
   
4. If you still see the Xbox start-up animation screen for 10 minutes or longer when the console powers back on, go to: Perform an offline system update
   

To add more info, like a month or two ago i had to factory reset the console due to the green screen of doom or whatever. The xbox won't load the green screen right now and will only connect to the tv when it reaches the troubleshoot menu. The "Offline
System Update" option is greyed out and i can't use it.

Then updating started without me doing anything.

Mine would be the BFG from Doom, who wouldnt want to fire giant green plasma projectiles that leak radiation at people haha

The Doom smg is what I'm using at the moment. I have the green scope thing on it though, maybe I should take that off.
