I spoke with a representative earlier today and he was very helpful, but I was very disappointed with the outcome of my phone call. I called because my Xbox One was experiencing a black screen on startup. Duncan, the representative, was very helpful with
walking me through the steps to help solve my problem. However, we came to the conclusion that this was a problem that required a repair request and my Xbox be sent in to be properly diagnosed.

Duncan then told me I had two options. My first option would let me send in the Xbox, free of charge, and it would be fixed in 3-4 weeks or I would receive a refurbished unit if it could not be fixed. My second option would let me upgrade to the “premium”
repair, at a cost of $15, where I could send in the Xbox and I would automatically be sent a refurbished unit. I asked Duncan if this $15 could be waived and he said that there was nothing he could do.

The problem I have with this is that I spent a long time deciding between a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One and finally had the courage to put up $350 on brand new system. I have had PlayStation systems in the past and never once did I have to send in a system
or experience a complete failure of the system. When I purchased the Xbox system I was expecting a reliable system that I would be able to use whenever I would like. However, it seems pretty inconvenient for me to be out of a system that I purchased only a
month ago for 3-4 weeks or pay $15 for a “premium” upgrade to receive, not a new, but a “refurbished” system for something that was defective. I am baffled that customer support could even have these options. It is an insult to the customers that buy these
products. All I asked was the $15 to be waived because I purchased this system a month ago expecting a brand new Xbox system that I would be able to use at my desire. I understand issues occur, but the 3-4 weeks to fix the defective system is absurd and the
$15 to upgrade to a premium service is insulting.

    :)

That's quite a bit of info you've given there. I've never heard of having to pay for a repair. What I would suggest is to contact phone support again and ask for an Advanced Exchange. The way it was explained to me before was they put a hold on your credit
card for the cost of an Xbox One console (they do not remove nor keep this money). They will then send you a console. When you receive your console you send the defective one back. When they receive that one back they remove the hold.

There was never any mention of an extra fee to do this.

However, what I'm going to do here is pass your thread along to one of the support agents so they can look into this and you can get an official answer. Please keep an eye on this thread.

Ok, I just got the official word from support here. It seems that the $15 covers the cost of shipping the new console to you. A relatively small price to pay to get back up and playing as soon as possible.

I hope this explains it for you and helps you out.

I was charged 10 bux for FEDEX expedited fee. I feel Xbox should cover that cost or throw in an additional xbox live months, rather than just one free month. This is the LEAST they can do for the poor quality of console. PS4 is is on the threshold if
Microsoft doesnt fix issue. I think Social Media would help bring this issue to light.

Considering that the console weighs almost 17 lbs I don't think that $10 covers for the full cost of shipping but only partial. Still a good deal in my opinion.

Xbox One FIX!, black screen after update 2021!

I have just experienced the same issue. My Xbox crashed in the middle of an update and now after the green boot up screen I get the black screen of death. I've tried soft and hard reboots and after holding down the sync and eject button I am now stuck in low resolution black screen of death.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do and now my sons and I are without a gaming machine.
