Green lines and dots one Xbox One S

    Hi guys,

So I recelty bought an Xbox One S, less than two months ago.

Everything worked perfectly except for yesterday. I've been AFK leaving my Xbox in his home menu.

Went back an hour or two later and everything apparead green, full of artifacts, green lines, dots...

Rebooted my console, still the same. Did an hard reboot ; Same. Factory reset ; Same. VGA mode by pressing power and eject for a few seconds at start -> Everything seemed normal again in low resolution 640*480. But when I've changed it back to 1080p
they appeared again... Same with 720P.

Anything else I may try before sending her in repair ?

    Thanks folks !

Artifacts on the screen like that generally indicate that there's a GPU defect in the Xbox.

But first, let's see if this is a display/cable issue. Try the below (all while you're in normal 1080p mode):

    • Try a different HDMI input on your TV, if available.
    • Try a different HDMI cable.
    • Try a different TV set or monitor.

If you still see artifacts on the screen with all steps, then you'll indeed have to send your console in for repair.

Hello FlorisKentie! I'm Claus, an Independent Microsoft Community Consultant for Xbox! Glad to be able to help you!

The green lines can be caused by many different reasons. First, check if the HDMI cable is plugged in correctly. If it is, then try to decrease the video output resolution on your Xbox by going to Settings. Under General, select TV & display options. Select Resolution and then change it to something lower.

If this doesn't fixes the issue, then check if you have HDR10 enabled by selecting Video modes on the same screen you were in before, and check if Allow HDR10 in checked or not. Make sure it is unchecked and verify if the issue keeps happening.

Xbox one s flashing screen green lines

AquarrzSudnnym's idea first is also quite good. Have you checked if it is very dusty / the holes are filled with dust or pet hair? Clean
that out for airflow is a great suggestion. Definitely shut it down and unplug it first.

Electronics don't like dust or heat (or water of course), and tend to go funny if over heated for too long.
