Gameplay - Graphics - Story

In that order.

 

IMO: gameplay > story > graphics. The more of each you have, the better.

 

Gameplay-Graphics-Story.

I never bother with the stories in games, I like nice graphics, it's all about the gameplay for me...

 

Gameplay, story and then graphics. I usually spend most my time playing multiplayer/co-op games, so I can happily play a game with a bad story line as long as the gameplay is fun - Dead Rising 3 being a good example.

 

I can play a game with a bad story(gears of war had an OK story and I played that Co op).

 

GAMEPLAY. ALWAYS.

If the gameplay sucks, I don't care how good the story or graphics are. If the gameplay is super fun, I don't care if the story stinks (TimeShift) or the graphics are outdated (Saints Row 2)

 

Definitely gameplay and story. Some of the best games I've played had horrible graphics, and some of the worst games I've played had great graphics.

 

The word for today... is... subjective.

 

All three counts indeed but still depends on the players' interests. For example, sports games like Fifa, NBA, Madden, etc., obviously they don't have story. They are being played because of the graphics and gameplay. As for story, RPG games surely fit this
category. They've always had the story but of course it still depends on the player as what interests him the most. If you love fantasy then you may play Dragon Age but if you love realistic suspense then Sniper Elite, etc.

Icewind Dale looks like a fried Mars bar graphically. But I love the story and gameplay. S'one of my all time faves. Games like XCOM and Massive Chalice aren't too pretty but they have great gameplay IMO. Games like Forza, gamers obviously want great gameplay,
and stunning visuals, and story doesn't factor into it.

But games professing to be next-gen - just speaking to the ever present resolution question this [next] gen - should reach a certain standard, and if a dev can't reach that standard, then it's on that developer/publisher, not the platform. IMO

 

Nobody ever criticised a game's frame rate this generation until the internet told them to.

 

You need a goof balance of everything. If one is dire compared to the others, there's a good chance it'll ruin the game for you.

S'not Skynet dude. Video comparisons, tech comparisons, awards for excellence in development. Engine optimisation across console generations. People cared every generation. "Nobody ever..." lol

It would be funny to watch you try and pick out the frame rates in a line up without being told what they were before hand.

You'd be like those kids in the Electronic Boutiques shops insisting that the "Soul Calibur" demo was running on a Playstation.

The difference between 30 and 60fps is fairly stark, dude. I'm sorry if you can't feel, let alone see the difference. If you were talking about resolution with all its variables like screen size, distance from screen, eyesight of the viewer... lol then yeah.
I can't squint and tell 900p from 1080p. 720p upscaled on a big screen TV. It doesn't look great.

Regardless. The point of my post was that the hardware we forked out money for is capable of a certain standard. If devs can't reach that standard then they're just not trying. Fallout 4 at 1080p 30fps will be just dandy. Doom 4 at 1080p 60 fps will be dandy.
720p at 50/60 fps in Battlefront isn't dandy. It's, we're not trying even after three years getting to grips with a dev kits/tools and our own in-house game engine.

But Az doesn't mind so let's not hit reasonable benchmarks for an expensive new generation of consoles. "Nobody ever..." Get a clue.

I can make generalisations too, "Everybody, everywhere, all the time... criticises fps in veedyo games!"
