Yeah literally the same thing just happened to me the guy texted me just trying to provoke me and ad soo as I said the slightest of thing it was banned, xbox really needs to look at context

The other persons context has nothing to do with your violation

When a report is files on YOU

It is your actions and YOUR actions alone that affect your suspension

So if your.msg had offencive context you are responcible.for your own suspension

Had you not.broke the rules in retailiating you wouldnt be in suspension

It doesnt matter who starts it

If you break the rules you are just as punishable

Common use common sense you learned this in grade school

Two wrongs dont make a right

If you retailiate in anyway to break the rules you will have detention just like the other person

Simple answer is context doesn't matter. As others have stated the only response should be report/block/mute and move on.

Sorry for the issue with the suspension. If the suspension is longer than a day you can file a case review. You will have to sign in on the
Enforcement site. Then click on the hammer and apply for case review.

First, you got a response from someone from the Xbox Enforcement Team. A number of people believe it's an automated system.

Second, a violation is a violation. Xbox does not have any control over most of the game servers. If you're playing Call of Duty, that's managed and controlled by activision. It's their game and their servers. You're just using the Xbox to get there.

If you're in Xbox Chat, that's something that Xbox has control over.

A suspension or ban on the account is imposed when there has been a violation of the Code of Conduct or Terms of Use.

- Note: If the violation was significant, the account may face consecutive suspensions and the device could be suspended as well.

If someone is making offensive remarks to you, do not reply back to them. Report and block them.

- If you're in a party chat and offensive remarks are being made. Your account may receive a suspension just for being in that party if the party is reported.
