Got an external HDD finally, a couple newb questions....

Got a new WD my passport ultra 2 TB external drive. Got it plugged in, formatted and moved a few games to it. Now the stupid questions...

    1. My xbox one will shut down completely. (power save mode on I believe) after it shuts down should I remove the HDD from the usb ports? Or always leave it plugged in?

    2. After Ive gone to manage game, moved game to external etc....is it safe to delete from internal drive? Or is there another step I'm missing? Save files etc.

    3. If there are any other neat tips or tricks let me know. Seems there are a few threads about external hdd options but they all seem to be wondering if certain ones are compatible or not. Got a deal on my WD on amazon for a good deal. Surprised as I
usually shop newegg for stuff like that. Thanks for all your help.

    :)

    Got a couple questions....

OK fable 3 has better graphics than fable 2.

    -

The game is also super glitchy. I have never had a problem with glitches but from what i have read and me trying to help fix everyone glitches it's pretty glitchy.

    -

The story is just as long as fable 2's maybe shorter but i find it same length

    -

It focuses on co-op its like the main thing for the game since there is some achievements that can only be done through co-op

    -

(Spoiler) when 75% of the main story is complete your main objective is getting as much money as possible

    -

Alot of weapons but look the same

    -

    Tries to be more funny

    -

The only good dlc is traitors keep the rest of the dlc is just stuff thats on the game disc that you have to pay for just to unlock it

    -

New shopping experience and new menu. well the menu is just a room you walk around

    -

Can't use an expression you want it chooses for you

    -

Then some new enemies but not a lot the new enemies don't show up till like 60% into the main story

    -

Oh and new leveling system (spoiler) you unlock chests instead of leveling skills

    -

oh jobs seem to be easier in my opinion

    -

then there is a few mini games mostly unlocked from 1 from getting to 75% of the game and 2 from the understone dlc, and one from traitors keep dlc.

    -

combat your just pressing same buttons repeatedly

    -

Sorry if all these are somewhat negative but im just telling the truth. In my opinion it's a good game but i say that for every game i play. To me it seems like fable 2 but its just my opinion. if you want you can try out the demo they have. you play the
first 30 minutes of the game. If you like what you see from the demo then pick it up if not then just ignore it or if you don't want to buy it just rent the game or something. If you like co-op then this game is great for it. Hope i helped a little if you
have any other question just post back here.

I just got my new 3TB HDD today.

I've Moved the Games that were already on my Xbox One HDD and to answer your question of the Game should be Deleted. No, you should not have to with Move because it removes the first copy on its own after the Move is finished.

As for unplugging it. I would simply say no, there is no reason to.

There are no "tricks" that I am aware. I might have missed something but having to Que each Game was kinda stupid. I found nothing for Move All Content.

I leave mine plugged in. I have all my digital games on the HDD but still keep a copy of my most played or favourites on the internal just incase I accidently delete it ( it happened) so I don't have to sit through a lengthy download again.

    1. If you're using power saving mode, the external hard drive will shut off when the Xbox One shuts off. If you use instant on mode, the external hard drive will turn on when the console is downloading updates, although there is a bug in the dashboard at
the moment that's causing the hard drive to turn on and off repeatedly for some users. The only time you'd need to unplug the external is if you're experiencing the bug I just mentioned, but you want to use the instant on mode for the faster boot, but then
you'd lose other benefits of instant on, such as automatic downloading of updates.

    2. If you moved the games, then they should only be on the internal anyway. If you copied the games, then yeah, you can delete them off the internal.

    3. I can't really think of any tricks, but I would say it's worth moving everything to the external, including all non-system apps. That way, if you ever replace your console for some reason, you can just connect your drive and carry on. Also, in most cases
you'll benefit from marginally faster load times. Plus, you can take your external to a friend's house, connect it to their Xbox One, sign in with your gamertag, and you can access your games/apps/content.

Can external drive use PC stuff and Xbox stuff at the same time? I moved everything from my PC to my drive after I formatted it on the PC like pics and docs etc. Next I tried to do it on my ONE, but it said I need to format it, but if I did, it would delete
    everything on the external drive.

I moved it all back on to the PC then formatted it on xbox, but then when I tried to put stuff from the PC back onto it, it said I need to reformat it again.

Now I have a 1TB drive with 920 gigs available and nothing else to put on it meanwhile my ONE internal drive is filling up quick.

To the best of my knowledge @brand, no. You can't use the drive for both. They probably did it that way to keep people from trying to modify game saves and such. You may be able to partition it, so that your PC and Xbox would see 2 drives? Even if you could
do that, only 1 drive would be usable for the Xbox and the other for PC. Neither system would recognize the other drive though.

Yeah I thought that was kinda stupid as well and noticed it first thing. The 360 had a slider option to set the allowed space meeting max and min requirements. The Xbox One has no such function.

I would guess the Drive could be partitioned prior on PC so the Xbox One could only see a set limit but that might be far beyond the scope of most Users and even given the Xbox One might even just default and wipe/ format the
    entire Drive anyway.

Oh well, I got about 2.6TB of Storage left now. Full circle once again. My first 360 with 20Gb seemed huge back in 2006. I would be willing to guess by the end of this Gen 500TB HDD's will be "standard".

I got a Seagate Backup Plus SLIM 1TB HDD because JB Hi Fi were having it on sell. I got it for my PC though since my HP Pavilion dv6 only has a 320GB file and only 55GB is left on it. My console quickly identifies it when I plug it in, and it's so slim.
Comes with a loooonnnnnngggg 3 year warranty, not just a 12 month warranty.

External HDD's are handy, especially when Xbox 1 only has 500GB, and you can only use what 370GB of that. If you've transferred stuff from your consoles HDD to your external HDD, it should be safe to delete it (game files, I wouldn't try to delete or even
go into system files if the Dashboard even allows you to which it probably doesn't. At Launch, Microsoft didn't even give software access to the Xbox 1's internal 500GB HDD, now they at least give you some access). You can also remove your HDD whenever you
want, but avoid doing so when playing a game off the external HDD or when the game is downloading updates.

  13. Got an external HDD finally, a couple newb questions....

I've had a horrible time with my 2TB Toshiba Connect. I was able to format, move, copy etc., but when I try to play any of my games from the external hard drive the performance is so bad I can't handle it. Very choppy, from a sound perspective and jerky.
Take for example Sunset Overdrive, the intro song will play a little then break, then start playing again but when I'm in the game it seems to play ok until there is music. I tried play Tomb Raider and the same thing with all cut scenes, Laura will be talking
and then it just stops and is out for a few seconds and starts again. I tell you it's horrible. It's got to be this new external drive cuz when I put the games back on the XBOX ONE internal drive the games work fine. Anyone else experienced this? A definite
    bummer.
