Got a Series X, but external recording seems to completely corrupt at random.

I was afraid this might be the steps necessary. This is on a Xbox series X.

It seems as though the file is corrupted?

I'm using a Series X and the recording is being done in the internal memory which is empty (only OS), all my games are played from external memory (SSD designed by seagate)

It could be corruption

Also should be noted you cant run series x games on external hdd

Only the storage cards or the internal nvme

If you patched the game that would be why

Patched games CANNOT run on external hdds

To fix corruption you would need to format the drive and then redownload the game

I'd do it as a last resort though

Thank you for the response but my controller is completely up to date. It actually just happened for the first time again with the xbox one x controller I was using. I think it's built in to the xbox series x/one x/one to stop recording if the controller is disconnected which causes this issue and makes the footage unusable. Not sure if you have a fix for that in particular but if not it seems it will continue to be an issue.
