Got a problem with the external HDD

When I conect it to Xbox One, it says ''multimedia'' and I can't format it to install games. I know what I have to do but the option to format does not appear.

Problem with External HDD

I gave my external hdd to one of my friend to copy a game for me but after i get it form him when i connect it to my xbox one it doesn't show all of my games. for example when i select manage on a game that i have it in my internal it shows that its in both
of them (which is correct) but it doesnt show it when i switch internal to external HDD. by the way when i copy my external hdd games to my internal (Copy, NOT MOVING) it doesn't show that game in my external hdd anymore.

okay MS! fix the problem! i bought the Xbox 360 4gb Boxing day - played with it no problem. January it frooze - I thought my new external HDD i bought caused the problem - went exchanged the unit (still in exchange period) - got the 2nd unit - same problem!
(okay maybe i got a lemon?) then i exchanged for the 3rd one! this time not plugging any external ms HDD in there... it freeze (noticing it was after they ask me to update) at this time i havn't even started playing with the console nor finish the initial
setup and it started freezing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can't have 3 LEMON Xbox 360 from wal-mart can i???

 

Sorry to hear it. If you want to use the hard drive specifically for storage then you could try formatting it on the PC before using it on the console.

Also, for a hard drive to be used for storage on the Xbox One console it must be USB 3.0 compatible and at least 256GB in size.

 

I have tried a couple of external hard drive enclosures. The one I have had the best success with is a Thermalake Muse 5G USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure with a Western Digital 2TB hard drive installed. To use it for games the drive has to be formatted with
the XBOX. To use it for media you have to format it with a PC first. I have had mixed results with thumb drives. Some of them run fine and I can watch a whole movie. Others drop off in the middle of playing a movie. Stay away from drive enclosures made
by SABRENT. I bought one and event though it says it is USB 3.0 compatible it kept dropping off. I got another and it too dropped off so then I got the Thermalake Muse 5G and it works fine. I just got a 2.5" external enclosure for an 480GB SSD from Kingwin
and that too drops off. They all work fine with PC's but not so much on the XBOX One.

 

Even thought the devices I am using are USB 3.0 compatible it seems that for some reason the XBOX One still has some issues with connecting to certain external devices. I have heard that with the proper USB 3.0 compliant enclosure and a fully SATA 3 compatible
external drive you can get a performance boost loading games due to the faster speed of SATA 3. The rotational speed of the hard drive can be factor as well as the stock internal runs at a slow 5400rpm and external could run at 7500rpm, 10000rp or higher.
Has anyone else had issues with USB 3.0 devices?

 

I have a WC my passport ultra on my one ever since yesterdays issues with xbox I cant access anything on my external hard drive all my games are on there can someone help me pls

 

Can anyone please tell me how to copy my installed games in xbox one's HD to an external HD? :/

 

Porky, it's easiest if you create your own thread.

However, quickly the answer is thus:

Once you have formatted the hard drive, go to My Games & Apps, highlight the game and hit the Menu button (horizontal lines) and select "Manage Game" and click the drop-down at the top of the next screen, then Move All and select the Hard Drive. That moves
the game and all DLC to the external hard drive. Repeat for all games you wish to move.

 

Maxen13, thanks for your help! However, it's not working. I did exactly as you said, and after selecting "manage game" , I have the option "tranfer all" , "copy all" , and "uninstall" . I selected the transfer option, the xbox freezed for some seconds and
nothing happened. Nothing about selecting the external hard drive. The same happened to the move all option. :/

ps: the HD is installed, formated, and it seems ok, with 1,8 tb of free space!
