Got a new disc drive/tray, and now I can't update my Xbox 360

My old disc tray quit working, and I tried everything I could to fix it but nothing seemed to work. So I ordered myself a new one because I really don't want to just go out and buy a new Xbox 360, this was my first serious console and I don't want it trashed.
I installed the new disc tray/disc drive whatever you call it, and now I can't update my console. To make it worse, I'm getting an error code that ends in C000-0099, which I've read means my console is banned! Did I mess up somehow and now it's just tough
luck? Or can I fix it somehow or get some help?? Should I worry about my account being banned?? I've had this account for several years, I can't just lose all that progress.

Sticky disc drive

Sounds like you have to send it in for repairs or buy a new one. You can probably fix it yourself with some online tutorials, but that's up to you. I had issues with my disc drive before I bought the new Xbox 360 S model and it wouldn't read discs. It would open and close the tray, but it wouldn't read discs. So I decided to buy a new one. However, this that you got may be fixable.

hey guys I have a Buddy I gave my xbox to that had a bad disc drive he got a disc drive from another buddy that works and I installed it in the xbox one and it's saying we can't use it.... the disc drive will read dvd and blu-ray just not the games any help
is appreciated I tried to factory reset but that didn't remove the newest up date so I can't update the new/used disc drive.... is there a way to remove updates?

Self repairs are against the Terms of Use (section 1.9) and is probably the reason for the console ban.

I'd recommend that you post in the Account Suspension forums to find out for sure why your console was banned. They will not be able to reverse the ban, because it's permanent, but they can give you answers. Be aware that it
may take up to 24 hours for them to respond, and they may give you an answer via email, rather than a forum post.

Your account should be okay (although I can't guarantee anything), because it's more likely that you would have gotten the account ban at the same time.

Yep. Never repair the console yourself.

As far as I know disc drives on xbox have custom firmware and probably a unique identifier that's links it with your console.

Replacing the drive with anything other than an officially sanctioned drive will be detected as a modded console and get you are console ban. This is an anti-piracy measure.

You should only get your console repaired via official channels like through Microsoft support and never do it yourself.
