Good RPG games to try?

Hello all,

Name is ponic for those who don't know me. I have a question for you which google has thus far been useless in answering. I enjoy games with solid stories and I've recently gotten into a lot of 1st person shooter games, but I also realized that that is nearly
my entire xbox 360 game collection, while my old PS2 collection is full of RPGs, and racers. I also like fighter jet games, but thus far the only series that I haven't despised for being too complicated was the HAWX games and the much better Ace Combat series.

Anyways what with the xbox one I don't buy a console till there are at least 4 games on it that I want, and I'm looking to get back into the swing of RPGs, namely fantasy RPGs. Problem, I hate open world games. I know they can be loads of fun but I value
story, character development, and plot twists that are set in a grounded and well developed world, and I can't see story being told properly in an open world concept. Being an author, I look for story the games I pick, if it doesn't have a storyline that I
can get into, then I don't buy it (example I was set for Titanfall until I found out it was online only and that was an instant turn off for me). Normally I don't see story being told in a solid way in an open world, and usually the open world gets so overwhelming
that about 4 missions in I've given up on trying to figure the game out. I could be wrong about story, but I do know that I can never figure out how to flesh out an open world game correctly, as I want to play a game with a beginning, middle, and end in story...not
be running around a planet picking up random packages and trying to flesh out a story out of various missions.

Anyways, with that said, can anyone recommend any good fantasy RPG games? One last thing, I dislike dark fantasy also. Nothing personal to those who do, but I enjoy fantasy worlds and dark fantasy is just not true fantasy to me, it's just badly thrown together
horror. When I look for fantasy books, dark fantasy is usually an instant turn off for me, as well. I know those are some pretty hardcore limitations but I could really use some assistance. Even something I can try out on my 360 that will have a sequel on
the xbox one would work...good way to get used to something before buying a new console.

In summation, let me know, hopefully you can help me on this one .

Im sorry everybody I really did not mean for this to become a discussion about assassins creed being a rpg or not i do apologize lol.

 

My suggestions are The Witcher 2, Dragon Age series, Mass Effect series, Final Fantasy XIII (I wouldn't recommend buying the later parts as it just ruins the good story from the first game IMO), Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey (though its not horror,
its has a very gloomy backstory).

Have you ever even played an open world RPG before?

Fallout 3,skyrim, witcher 2, and bioshock

xbox one has witcher 3 and elsder scrolls online.

You should look into the games before you buy them though.

 

By looking at your gamer card you like shooters what about the Mass effect games series.

 

Oh and dishonored would be good as well, it isn't overly open and has a pretty good story.

 

Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 or Final Fantasy XIII or XII-2.

 

Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 are both excellent games. Borderlands 2 has a decent story with a bunch of humor. It's a FPS RPG. Loads of fun especially with friends.

 

RPGs have mainly shifted to more open world, but some more linear RPGs that come to mind are Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and The Witcher 2.

This wouldn't be a post by me if I didn't recommend Dark Souls. So play Dark souls. It's a fantastic dungeon crawler RPG, so it's not open world. I think you'd enjoy it.

Battlefield 1943 is a good game you might like. It's one of the most balanced shooters there is because of it's simplicity, and it's also got planes, and a specific planes only mode. I haven't played it in a while (I accidentally booted it up), but I'd love
to play it again some time.

 

Yes I was mostly hoping to jazz up my game collection with a few fantasy RPGs...I've heard good things about the dragon age series so I'll rent it (we still have rental stores up here ) and give the single player a try. I've heard of dishonoured so I'll
youtube it's gameplay and see what it's about.

El Negro: I've played 1 or 2 open world RPGs but they were instant turn offs for me...I'm not a big fan of jumping around looking for missions to do.

Defy: Haven't heard of Borderlands...I'll take a look at it.

Any other RPGs on the xbox one? I don't have a one yet, so obviously I can't rent them but I can at least look online at their gameplay and story modes to see what they are like.

 

kingdoms of amalur: reckoning has a pretty decent story and isn't super open world-y. deus ex human revolution might be a good one, though it's scifi/cyberpunk and not fantasy. what open world rpgs did you play? cause you could've just gotten a couple ****
games.
