  6. This reality of the cloud being used to enhance games is the fact that it could only be used to enhance multi player / online games. Due to the fact publishers would not be able to incorporate enhancements to single player games that are played offline,
making it pretty useless to the majority of gamers.

    -

However if i'm wrong on this, could someone please explain to me how this could be achieved ?

I dont know enough about all that fancy mumbo jumbo they speak of in the article to even comment on it. But whatever.

Good Read, hope it is true.

the cloud thing might work, or might not work for different reasons, the article is just a good read.

technically speaking, remote computational power exists and for a long time, but it was never there on a massive scale which we know now as "cloud"

simple tasks, as having to redundant systems doing the same tasks but splitting the traffic on both of them thus providing bigger capacity...it is a similar principle

Data is available in Raw format, binary it does not make any sense until it is rendered, formatted, parsed or whatever you want to call it, now this activity takes processing power, and a good amount, this data can be off shored to a remote server that does
the parsing and returns the result thus freeing up the local resources.

  9. ... but why not just manufacture a console that is capable of todays standard resolutions which is uniform on / offline out of the box ? - This is a rhetorical question !

I'm afraid it's just another gimmick similar to the dropping of kinect which will supposedly deliver 10% more processing power, trying to cover up the fact that the hardware is not powerful enough to deliver 1080 resolutions.

All these variations just lead to more problems in the longrun, if they are to be believed !

As to why they didn't manufacture an out of the box brute force console without this hassle, you are absolutely right, and i have no clue... I can only comment on the technical feasibility of the solution.

However looks like the gaming industry is headed towards a different business model, they want to turn gaming into a service instead of a product (since the consoles were selling at a loss), this is why MS is pushing the cloud and Sony is pushing it too
    via Gaikai and playstation now.

i don't think it is a gimmick, i just think it is a long shot

  12. "However if i'm wrong on this, could someone please explain to me how this could be achieved ?"

You are not wrong at all. Yes, it could be used but there are to many other considerations for it to be viable. If you rely on the servers for things like AI, or anything else for that matter, and connection is lost or slows for some reason you would see
it in game. Unless you reserved that on console. In that case you might as well use it on the console. And, you would not be able to go above what the console could handle. Example: I have a project that runs some AI on my server. This project is all
just for testing purposes. If I cut the server or cause the connection to slow weird things happen. I can circumvent this (mostly) by having my PC ready to take over. If I put things in place to take care of this situation it costs resources and performance
on the PC. It can be even worse for graphics and make for some ugly messes.

I will say however that if you can assure a stable connection and use the full resources available as well as that from the server you can do some fancy stuff. Especially if you are doing AI and things on server while allowing the console/system to have
full power for graphics. And it is useful in other instances as well.

As for the article I did not read it. But if they are saying that MS could use the cloud to anything other than MP my One purchase may have been a bad one. I have a very fast solid connection but I have never had a perfect on no matter where I have lived.
And the fact is I enjoy playing offline when things go down.

"teying to cover up the fact the hardware is not powerful enough to deliver 1080 resolutions. "

So there are no 1808p games on XB1? Resolution doesnt make a game good.

  14. I think your spot on with them wanting to turn gaming into a service as they can control everything about it and then charge us whatever they like.

And when this day finally comes, gaming to me will be dead ! - which is a shame but there's more to life than sitting in front of a console all day Good Read, hope it is true. :)

The one thing that will kill off this industry is the greed of Microsoft and Sony, trying to find more and more ways of getting money out of us - I just wish they could be happy to make a tidy profit and stop pushing for more and more money all the time
    - but that's my dream world and it's long gone unfortunately, but Microsoft are starting to feel the effects from there fanbase.

I think this will work because the types of data being processed by the cloud isn't going to be as dynamic as your pilot or Titan. They will be environmental and statistical; sky, weather, terrain. Things that are more persistent and not time sensitive.
This will free up the hardware in the console to provide the power for the more dynamic processes. I think DirectX12 will blow people away. And the 10% return on power from the Kinect is a misnomer. It does not increase the power of the hardware by 10%,
it frees up part/all of the 10% that used to be reserved for Kinect function. Opinion... all of this (what I have typed) is just that opinion, peppered with what I know of computers and how they process data.

Something else to keep in mind is that the technology in this console will carry MS/us for the next better-part-of a decade. This system was designed to grow. We are currently seeing it in its infancy. This is not the 360 but in the respect that the 360
of November 22, 2005 is not the 360 of May 20, 2014. I would dare any of you to attempt to create something (except for a child) this complex, with the flexibility and malleability the One has.

I think the vision for the One (even before they offered a Kinect-less One) is/was ground-breaking. Maybe when the next generation MS console comes out the Kinect will be more accepted and people will see it as a benefit instead of $100 wasted.
