Good Achievement Design

The only achievements that really bother me are the online only achievements. The ones where you force the user to play online a specific way.

As much as many users find that fun, for those that don't enjoy PvP, don't have Live or those picking up a game for the first time years after it's been released because they can finally afford a copy, many of the online only achievements are even tougher
to get.

Let alone what are users suppose to do when the game servers get shut down. Now they can never have the joy of completing all of a game's achievements.

Make them obtainable; nothing too easy, but also not obnoxiously difficult / time consuming.

I think the best design uses achievements to provide a guide to squeezing the most out of the game, not random "kill 50000 rats" type achieves. Unless killing a lot of rats makes sense as part of the gameplay

Well one of my favorites which isnt done anymore is alot of max rank multiplayer achievements in games... back in cod waw if you got the Max rank in waw you would not only get an achievement but the developers were also insulting you with the achievement
called get some sun

I don't like very easy achievements. For example story related. It isn't achievement for me. Achievements should be challenging

I don't get the points on the secret achievments. Also if an achievement is just stupid grinding to unlock it. Like kill 1 million of any enemy or harvest 1 million of any item..
