Gold subscription successfully renewed, can't play GwG

The Gold subscription requirement has been in place for four years, since Games With Gold was expanded to Xbox One. Xbox 360 GWG titles are still yours to keep forever, even if your subscription lapses, and can still be installed and played on Xbox One.
Xbox One GWG titles require you to maintain an Xbox Live Gold subscription; if you let your subscription lapse, you would have to buy the games outright, or renew your subscription.

In order to maintain the ability to play the xbox one GWG you must maintain the gold subscription if you do not you lose the ability to play the games. They will still be installed on your xbox you just lose the license for them until you renew your gold

No, the physical version does not require a Gold subscription, also because it is not a multiplayer game. You can safely play offline with your profile. To play it as a digital version (given by GwG) you need instead to have a Gold subscription.
