So when they are on their xbox it still works for them right even without my account on their xbox as long as their home xbox is set to mine

Correct. Once you set a console as your Home, your account does not need to be signed in in order for other profiles to access your games/subscriptions.

No you will not be able to share gold across multiple consoles.

Xbox Support may not help you in this case as Gold sharing is not intended to be used by multiple people on different consoles AFAIK.

Share your Xbox Live Gold subscription and content on your Xbox One console. You can't combine or merge Microsoft accounts, but if you have multiple accounts, you can share your Xbox Live Gold subscription and content on your Xbox One.

They have; it'll be replaced soon by shared Xbox Live Gold which will allow multiple accounts (on the same console, I believe) to use another profile's Gold membership for the one subscription.
