gold memebership not working

I just bought an x box then I bought a 12 month live gold memebership but it wont let me do anything with it ???? why

i cant play online

today gold memebership was only 1 dollar so i decided to buy it then i tried downloading games from xbox gold that worked too nut then i tried playing the multiplayer but it is not working. its saying that you need to have xbox gold in order to play online

The is a joke. i make a account and it says 1 month gold free memebership when i try and get the 1 month gold free memebership it says error code and i don't know how to fix it ? would you mind telling me and other if you can or if it isn't going to work
and if not does it mean i need to buy a gold memebership for it to work ?

Are you seeing any error message(s) once you try to redeem the code for your 12 months of Xbox LIVE?

If you are having issues redeeming codes to your account. There are things that you need to check and make sure of.

1. Check code validity and if it is activated by the store.

2. Code should be compatible or should match the region of your account.
I.E, if your account is Canada, codes bought in the US won't work.

3. There should be no billing violations or pending balance. This is very very common during my Xbox support days where we can check our customers account and they would either have pending balances or
locks on the account (due to escalated cases for reasons such as unauthorized access, etc.).

4. If the code, was successfully redeemed but does not update or show on your console. Clear the cache 3 times and turn off the console for 30 seconds.

i live in norway did pay fore 2 years whit a credit card and i suddenly cant play online, it have been this in almost a month, could the problem be that microsoft suddenly did check where my x-box is located ?

its very confusing that i cant use my live gold member ship that i have payd fore.
