    Yesterday I started the one month free trial of xbox live gold, it was all working fine and I was playing GTA Online until I changed my gamertag through the MS website. When I re-downloaded my profile the tag had changed but my avatar didn't appear, checking
    the live membership in the console settings reveals "silver membership" with N/A for all the dates and payment fields. Starting up GTA Online I get an error stating as much - no permission for online. My gold subscription is still active on the MS website.

    I have tried deleting the profile, the cache, resetting, restarting, unplugging the router and xbox, re-downloading the profile, testing the xbox live network connection(fine), over and over. Nothing helps, no avatar, no gold.

    Frustratingly I can't access MS chat support, as when I sign in to autofill the name, last name and email fields, the name fields are left blank and inaccessible which produces a validation error -preventing chat from starting. Twitter XboxSupport hasn't
    responded to my pleas. I'm out of ideas.

    Xbox live gold on Xbox 360 and One

    I have an Xbox Live Gold account, in use on my XBox One.

    I just fired up my XBox 360, and figured I'd change the MS account my old profile used, to take advantage of the new Gold membership. It fails with the error "This mirosoft account already has an xbox membership. Sign in with that gamertag, or try a different
    Microsoft account"

    Am I not able to do this?

    Hi there,

    just to be sure does the Gamerscore on the 'old' gamertag match with the 'new' one?

    If that has changed too, then it may be the case that a new account was created instead on top of the old one.

    If the gamerscore is fine then no need to worry about that part.

    Since you already tried the redownload part, it is best to contact official Xbox Support by Phone. Use this link to get the correct details:

    Make sure the country in bottom left corner on that link matches your actual region

    Thanks for the reply. It seemed to be an issue with the change updating throughout the system. Phone support could not help other than to suggest I create a new MS account. I decided to wait and see if it would update with time and sure enough within the
    week it resolved itself.

    Hi there, unfortunately each gamertag needs a separate Xbox Live Gold membership to access the online features of any game.

    -

    This will change with the Xbox One where all gamertags on the console will be able to share the one gold membership.

    Well it appears you have a full Xbox Live Gold subscription as your gamertag is gold to the left there.

    You can't stack trials on top of full memberships.

    The Home Gold features are specifically for the Xbox One, they do not do anything for the Xbox 360. If your son wishes to use his Xbox 360 and play online he would need his own Xbox LIVE Gold membership. As far as the Home Gold is concerned anyone on that Xbox
    One that decides to play on it with their gamertag will have a gold membership automatically as your account has a gold membership, it would be shared with the whole console.
