why is xbox asking me to update my payment options to simply pay for the xbox go gold for a month promotion when i have credit on my xbox live account already? why don't they just charge my account which has on credit in the first place?

For anyone who has a Gold membership with Xbox Live, have you seen these coupon offers? Supposedly, you can either get Xbox free or get a free trial offer for as long as one year. There might be a catch, but maybe they're just doing it to promote the Gold membership. Has anyone ever gotten a free trial?

"$1 for 1 month of Gold" does not work for me

When I try to click the 1 dollar for 1 month of gold offer,

it offers a month at $5.49 instead.

I can't get the $1 promotion to work.

I am a silver member and I have not ever been a gold member, so does that have something do to with this problem?

Your Microsoft Account balance is not set up to work with recurring subscriptions. Gold can only be purchased via credit card/paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card from a store.

We see that you are not receiving Gold Status this month due to your subscription being a promotional Gold subscription for 1 month. Promotional subscriptions are not eligible for Rewards, so your free 1 month is not eligible. From our FAQ:

Xbox Live Rewards can only recognize paid monthly or yearly standard, non-promotional Xbox Live Gold memberships. If you have a different type of membership, we may not be able to recognize you as an Xbox Live Rewards Gold member.

That's normal 1 dollar per month is promotional

You however should've stacked your membership and would've upgraded thar time for 1 dollar for upto 3 years if you stacked your gold.to 3 years that's how most people do it

14.95 is the normal.price.

You would've been better off stacking to 3 years then upgrade to 1 dollar for first month and would've gotten 3 years of xgu

That promo price is one time only keep in mind upgrading is one way and you can't cancel oe forfeit the time remaining it's best to turn off autorenewal.and wait it out

$5 month is not a promotion. A year of XBL gold is 60 dollars = 12 months X 5 dollars
