Gold account code not working

Hi All. I bought a voucher to extend my Xbox Live Gold membership. When I try to load it on the console I get a message saying "Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help", which is not super useful. According to Xbox assistant the console
is connected to the internet and Xbox live is operational. Any thoughts?

The promo code will not ilupgrade your account to gold, but will allow you to access gold features. Only some not all such as games with gold will not work with trial codes.

Is this the account you're trying to use it on? You're still showing as gold on the forums. If your account is still gold the code won't work.

Try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down then use the code again when you restart.
