Is there any possible way to gift someone a code for Xbox Live gold membership using solely the Internet? A physical card is currently not an option as single month cards are not offered in my area.

yes xbox gift cards will work on pc,s and yes you need xbox live gold go for xbox live gold first.

^ Not true. You can be connected to the internet and consequently xbox live via your console without a gold membership. Most of the features, however, are locked behind a paywall. With silver you can still get online.
