    Buying as a games as a gift

    It may be that not all games can be bought as a gift, or if it is a Pre-Order of a game you have pre-ordered for yourself, the gift option doesn't seem to appear until the release day has passed when it should show the gift option again.

    You can't gift pre orders, unfortunately. You would have to pre order on his account. The only other option is wait for release date and then gift it.

    Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this question. At current, it is not possible to pre-order as a gift from the online Microsoft store. If you do wish to make that purchase for a friend, you may need to either gift them currency or make the
    pre-order from a stand alone retailer.

    Cannot buy a game as a gift if I already own it?

    Once the game releases, you should be able to buy it as a gift. They just don't allow the gift option on pre-orders.

    If the game is eligible to be gifted, it will have an option to "Buy as Gift" I don't believe pre-orders are eligible though.
