    Unless it specifically says it's a gift card, it cannot be used as a gift card. If it's for Gold, it can only be used for Gold.

    Was it an Xbox gift card or a prepaid gold card? Gift cards only add funds to your account, they don't add gold.

    There is xbox live game pass gift cards same with xbox live gold gift cards. Currency gift cards can't really play for subscription payments.
