so i wanna buy minecraft for a friend but hes in canada. Im in Washington state. Pretty close right?

I want to send him a game but not sure i can, as google tells me. If he changes his location to United States, can he receive the game then? Any other way around this?

No, there is no way around it. Your best option is to purchase them a Canadian Xbox gift card, and give them that, so they can purchase the game.

Yes, gifting games is region locked. Your friend would have to be in the US in order for the code to work. In order to get a code for a different region, you would have to buy it from a retailer that sells codes for that region.

It's a bit funny because if you are in europe and change the console to US, you can use the US Xbox store when you buy US$. But you can't install a game from a code.
