Gift Code Region Error

Based on the description, you are trying to redeem gift card that was included in the promotion and got geo-restricted error. Let us see and check on what we can do to help.

The reason why you are getting geo-restricted error it is because some digital codes are meant for a specific region that may not match with your account’s region. Make sure that the region on your Microsoft account matches the region where the digital code was acquired. The gift code that was acquired as part of the promotion for your third-party subscription does not match your Microsoft account's region therefore this gift code cannot be redeem in your account.

Here in community forum and even representative from live support channel cannot do more with redemption of gift code that was acquired from a region that does not match with the region of your Microsoft account since it will be automatically detected and blocked by the system. You can contact back the retailer who provided the gift code and ask for gift code that matches with the region of your Microsoft account to prevent geo-blocked error. You can also gift it to someone or a friend that matches the region of the account where the gift code was acquired in that way it can be redeemed without an error.

Hi there,

if the game was gifted to you, keep in mind that you need to be in the same region as the person that gifted you the code. Gifting can only be done in the same region.

If it is for the same region then be sure to check your billing information at
http://account.microsoft.com and after that try redeeming the code on both xbox console and via xbox.com/redeemcode If it is still not working properly please use

http://support.xbox.com/error-code-lookup to search for any steps regarding the errorcode you are receiving.

I would check and make sure that you got a gift code from the same region that you are in. Do you get any error codes about the region when you try to install it?

Your friend will have to get a refund or gift the code to a friend in the same region. It does state whilst purchasing that gifting only works in the same region.
