Gift cards redeemed and showing in the account but not an option when going to purchase

My son received $50 in Xbox gift cards and we redeemed them and they are showing up in our account but they are grayed out via the console. When we go to purchase a game, the MS card balance doesn't show as payment option. Any ideas what the issue might
be?

Buying games with Gift cards

Hi, I'm trying to buy a game using the gift cards that I've redeemed, but I only see my credit card option under payment. How to I purchase games with the money (redeemed from gift cards) in my microsoft account?

 

I responded to you on another post, but does he have enough on his account to cover the full amount of the purchase with tax?

 

No he doesn't we were going to cover the remaining with a second form of payment .

Sorry after I thought hijacking the other thread might not be "good form". I should have deleted it .

 

You have to start the payment with a credit card and it should ask if you want to use the remaining money in your account first. Then it will pay off the balance with the credit card.

Keep in mind though that not all content can be purchased using a split payment, so there could be a chance that it will charge your card for the full amount.

 

Thank you very much for your help. Is there anyway to tell which games will work with split payment? We are looking to purchase the Destiny game.

 

Can we add more money into the MS account online and then it will all pull from that MS account?

 

Unfortunately there's no list or anything that will show what can and can't be paid for that way.

There's no way to add currency to an account directly from Microsoft. You would purchase an Xbox gift card digitally and add the code to add money to the account.
