    Gift cards can't be used to purchase subscriptions


    I was given a gift card and purchased another myself so I could renew my xbox live gold. Unfortunately after trying via xbox live and online via PC I was unable to purchase xbox live gold with the gift card balance. It doesn't say this on the cards themselves
    or anywhere that I know of I had to be told by a chat advisor.

    Now it is just me or is this really stupid and unfair? I will not get xbox live gold at all now. I'm really annoyed by this this. And yes this post is as much about having a rant as anything else! I fact I probably won't even use my xbox anymore!

    A gift card and an Xbox live gold subscription are 2 different things. Currently, currency in your account cannot be used to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. So you would either have to purchase a subscription card or purchase it directly on the
    website/Xbox.

    Currency from gift cards can only be used to purchase games and other content. It is not set up to work with a recurring subscription so it cannot be used to buy gold and it does not work with third party subscriptions so it won't work for EA Access. You
    would need to purchase subscriptions via credit card/PayPal or buying a prepaid gold or EA Access card.

    Gift cards for dollar amounts cannot be used to purchase subscriptions. The subscription gift card for a specific period of time must be used.

    As far as i know you can't purchase subscriptions with gift card balance, you need a PayPal or Credit/debit card, as the purchase is a reoccurring one. You can also purchase gift cards specificly for live and game pass, just a heads up.

    You will need to pay past due balance before you can purchase a new subscription. This must be done by credit card, or PayPal. You also cannot purchase a new subscription using your account balance. If you want to use a gift card you must purchase a gift
    card that is specifically for a 3mo, 6mo or year subscription.
