They can use the code without problems right?

XBL gift card question????

I live in the U.S. and my buddy Joe lives in Canada. Joe wants to buy me some Arcade Games for my birthday. It seems that Joe cannot recover my Gamertag and just buy the games himself. Anyways, we had the bright idea of Joe just buying a gift card and sending
me the code on the back.

Yet I read somewhere about how the gift cards have to match the same monetary value of the currency the person redeeming it is in. It makes it seem like it's possible but at the same time it doesn't say how. It's confused us both. I know the Canadian dollar
is worth more than the U.S. dollar.

So if I redeem a code he sends for a $30 gift card, would it only give me $26.48 or would it just not work period?

Another friend suggested buying the card from Amazon and having it shipped to me directly but it seems the same problem arises due to Joe only being able to purchase from the Canadian Amazon.

We used to be able to buy each other games using a temp account I created to just load points onto, one of us recover it, and then use said points to buy whatever. But it seems like that's no longer an option.

I just wish this were easier and XBL had a gifting system like Steam.

Hi there,

You'll have to make sure the currency matches the recipient's billing account.

Right from the support page:
support.xbox.com/.../types-of-prepaid-codes

"•When you purchase an Xbox gift card, make sure that the currency you use matches the currency associated with the recipient’s billing account. Otherwise, the recipient will be unable to redeem the gift card.

•If you redeem an Xbox gift card in a country that doesn’t match the country associated with your billing account, you won’t be able to use those funds."

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. If the gift card is like a Visa gift card they may work. If the gift card is Microsoft currency yes you should be able to purchase V-bucks with that.

Hi, to answer your question: Yes, you can use Xbox Gift cards and/or Microsoft Gift cards to purchase things in game once you have put the Xbox or Microsoft Gift card on your account. Hope that helps, enjoy the game.

Hi,

Once you redeem a code it will be added to your account and you can use those funds towards both physical or digital purchases.

If the money in the account doesn't match the total purchase, you can pay the rest with another payment method.

But how to view the balance and redeem a game with the balance please show screenshots Remember all of this must be done in windows store and on windows

To see your balance go to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments and log in with your Microsoft account

Example below:

Purchasing a PC gaming mouse from the Microsoft Store. This is from the the UK store, but it will look the same in other supported regions.

As you can see, the store allows me to use the £14.00 on my Microsoft account and a debit card pays for the remaining balance. If you have the full amount in your account, then you won't need a second payment method.
