GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client

As previously documented for the past several months:

locked due to legal threats here: Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.

and due to the issue being "resolved" here:

Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.

    and here:

Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.

both threads were labeled as "solved" and locked.

Unfortunately, the situation is unchanged. I was receiving the same error message after the GFWL client starts up as marked in the previous threads. So, I uninstalled the GFWL client and GFWL redistributable and tried again. Now I'm not even able to run the
GFWL client installer. I'm receiving the following message when attempting to install the GFWL client:

"An error occured. Error code: 0x80070005.

Please visit our support homepage for possible solutions:
    (BIG BLUE SUPPORT BUTTON HERE)

For more details about why this error occured, please see the log files:
(BIG BLUE BUTTON TAKING YOU TO LOG FOLDER HERE)
    "

So now I've taken myself a step back and can't even install the client. To hopefully answer technical questions to be posed below here is the follow , here is some data:

    1) Windows 7-64 bit

    2) Yes I am an administrator and am running the installer as an administrator.

    3) No I don't understand the logs. I looked at them and it's a very long text document filled with lots of data I don't understand. I would be glad to pass it on to microsoft support if it actually will result in me being to log into the my account, download,
and play Age of Empires 3.

    4) Yes I did restart my computer after uninstalling the old client and redistributable package.

    5) I tried the support button. It takes me to a page stating "We are are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found". https://www.microsoft.com/library/e...ft.com/games/en-US/Support/Pages/default.aspx

And for the love of god people, please don't threaten legal action in this thread. I, like you all, just want to play my game I paid for that I haven't been able to for about half a year now. So can we just get this problem fixed?

    :)

    Error code 0x80070005

When I try install the GFWL client I get the following error message:

"An error occured. Error code: 0x80070005."

As also mentioned here (Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.).

Can anyone give me some help on getting the client installed and working properly? So far I've tried:

    1) Running program as administrator

    2) Escalating security/privileges for all users for the folder.

    3) Reverse compatibility - Windows XP SP2

    4) Uninstalled my virus scanner

    5) Added an exception to windows' firewall.

    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

  3. [Dark Souls PC]The live service may be unavailable, or there may be an issue with your home networking equipment.

    Hello Lyvshalker

I am able to connect and play online for GFWL. Perhaps you can try to reinstall the GFWL client.

If reinstalling the GFWL client did not work then you may be one of the many users affected by the recent GFWL issue. Read the link below. It is the official announcement made by a member of GFWL support. You will have to wait until they resolve the issue.

0x80070005 is access denied error you need to change some file permissions on the folder. Look at your GFWL logs typically located here for clues to which folder you need to rick click & change permission on: C:/Users/%USERNAME%/AppDataLocal/Microsoft/GFWLive/Logs

(Replace / for forward slash this page is replacing that for this sign \ for some bizarre reason!!).

Also open these ports on your firewall/router as per this doc here (its for Win 10 but I think MS changed the requirements for open ports required to connect to Xbox Live & GFWL is still part of that):

If your NAT is not open, you'll need to update the settings on your router in order to have the best possible networking conditions. We recommend opening the following ports in order to achieve Open NAT settings for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition For Windows

I moved the installer to my documents folder and no change. Also, in looking at the log below are the errors that occur(ed) and in the order they are listed in the log. I believe these are from after the GFWL client was "fixed" by microsoft's engineers.
I have removed the extremely long detailed info in brackets as it can take up a several pages I think. Here are all errors I got on March 27th when I originally posted this:

    1. 2016-03-27T13:21:08 Error SignIn
Could not authenticate using cached token to live id.
    2. 2016-03-27T13:21:54 Error General

Also, what do I put in the Server IPv6 Address field? I have a comcast router and I know that 10.0.0.1 goes in the IPv4 field.

  8. GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client

Hey, NEKO! Well, the good news is that everything is fixed, it's just you're running into an authentication error now.

The first thing we want to make sure is that any anti-virus isn't running. Some of them (particularly Norton) continue to run even if you "shut them down". If that's the case, please temporarily uninstall it to see if it's what's causing it. If you are still
hitting that error after uninstalling, then I encourage you to reinstall the anti-virus because it's obviously not the resolution.

Our next step, since this is an installation issue, is to look at this Answers thread. There's a LOT of troubleshooting in there, so be sure to try all you can in the marked answer from the Answers Microsoft rep there.

Let me know if either of these work for you! If they don't, we can look at further steps for you. GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client :)

    @ PWXBOX360:

The servers are working correctly. I tried my old laptop that also has windows 7 on it and was able to start the GFWL client and download Age of Empires Complete Collection without any problems. So, the servers are now working correctly. Also since my laptop
was able to download the game without and issue, it's unlikely that my problem is a port or firewall issue.

    @Misses Quinzel:

I uninstalled my virus scanner and restarted my computer. I'm still getting the same error. It looks like you were trying to link to another forum but it didn't work. Can you post the link directly?

GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client

    Hi Misses Quinzel,

I'm unfortunately still not having any luck. Below is what has happened for both solutions provided:

    Attempted Solution 1:

I download and install SubInACL from the microsoft support center provided. I made the .cmd format document as requested with the contained text in the post and saved it as "all files" type.

    Result:

A command prompt window opens for a split second, then closes. The GFWL client still gives me Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to install it.

    Attempted Solution 2:

I downloaded AccessChk from the link provided on the same page. Extracting, and copying/pasting the text into the command prompt results in the command prompt giving me the following message:

"Accesschk v6.01 - Reports effective permissions for securable objects"

    *insert copyright info here*

Result: The newly generated txt file by the program/command prompt is completely blank with no characters or info contained on it. The GFWL client still gives me Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to install it.

Do you have any other solutions?

  14. I have a massive amount of troubleshooting we can do for this error code, and I will exhaust everything I can to see if we can get this working for you.

The two I have for you this post are making sure the Windows Live ID service is running and installed on your PC.

That error you're receiving generally means that the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant is not running on your machine. Even if it is installed and set to 'auto start', it doesn't mean that something is blocking it from starting up when it tries.

Open up a command window run as Administrator, then run the following commands:

    net stop wlidsvc

    net start wlidsvc

That should stop the service and then restart it manually. If it gives you an error with the stop command (like, 'service is not currently running') then for some reason it is not auto starting on your machine. If the start command fails then that would
be the problem GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client :) If it fails, you can see why in the Event Viewer (can do a search for this from your Start menu). It should be listed under Windows Logs > System (key phrase being should. I'm on Windows 10 and don't have the WLID service anymore, so I'm
honestly not 100% sure where it is anymore). You can always tell what it is by looking at the Source column. Let me know what the event ID is if it does indeed fail, because there's more troubleshooting we would need for that.

If you do not have the service on your computer, you can download it
    here
    .

You seem pretty capable with your PC, but please let me know if you have any questions about what I've posted. Sometimes this can get a bit confusing. GFWL Client still not working. Error code 0x80070005 when attempting to reinstall GFWL Client :)
