Getting TV to my Xbox One

Hi guys,

I live in the UK, and haven't had any form of broadcast TV in my household other than what's delivered over IP. So I really use iPlayer, All4, NowTV apps - mainly over my Xbox One.

I'm thinking of getting either Freeview HD+, Freesat HD+ or Sky HD+ / Sky Q. I don't have any real need to use Sky per se, however if it's the cheapest way I'm more than happy to sign up for a contract.

My requirements are:

• Use my Xbox One for viewing all TV.
  • Am I right in saying that I could either passthrough my STB using the HDMI out from the STB to the HDMI In on the Xbox, OR I could buy the adapter for the Xbox and use that as the tuner?
    
• 5.1 surround sound support
  
  • My Xbox is connected to my amp. Amp has the speakers connected, and also outputs over HDMI to my TV.
    
• At least two tuners, with the ability to record one channel and watch another / record two at once etc
  
• Access to any and all HD channels broadcast in my area
• At least 500Gb to store recordings
• Either use Freeview / Freesat Play EPG - OR the Xbox OneGuide if that would work.
  

I don't have any need for a Blu-Ray player, nor any 3D support.

I know there's "Freesat by Sky" - but the box appears to be too basic without recording and other features I'm after.

Even the most expensive "official" Freesat STB's only appear to do stereo (which is worrying!), such as the HUMAX HDR-1100S STB. Unsure if this is a limitation of Freesat as I
think the Freeview boxes support 5,1 audio.

Anyone have much experience with this? I'm really just after some knowledge and view on:

• Which is "better" overall when requiring free to air channels - Freeview, Freesat or the basic package by Sky? (Or Freesat by Sky?)
  
• When connecting to the Xbox, should I just use the HDMI in method, or use the separate Xbox tuner (which I think limits me to Freeview HD)
  
• Once the above are decided, anyone offer suggestions on the best STB for my needs? (If I don't just use the Xbox tuner instead).

Xbox one

I'm getting the Xbox one but I do not have a hd tv what do I do to hook it up to my tv

ive tried to put the audio into the tv audio on my tv then the usb into the xbox one but im not getting any sound

 

Personally I wouldn't go with Sky, I just dropped them as it was costing me £22.50 a month and all the channels I watch are available on Freeview.

I just got the EE TV box through the post yesterday and up to now I can say its a fantastic piece of kit. Its basically Freeview, but with on demand services as well, and a 1TB hard drive, and five tuners (record up to four channels while watching a fifth)

The other good feature the EE TV box has is that you can link your tablet up to it, your wife can be downstairs watching the soaps while your upstairs watching the footy on your tablet, all streamed from the EE TV box.

The only downside to the EE TV is that you have to be an EE Broadband customer, not problem for me as I have been for quite a while, but it may be a problem for you.
